wow Im new to all this too, the discussion group and the holidaying alone.

Ive booked my 1st holiday (scary stuff) but feel reassured by all the positive comments

Im booked on the Treasures of Andalucia towards the end of March, any advice or tips will be gratfully received and read.. probably several times!

Hi Julie, No need to be scared but most of us are for our first trip.

It was my second trip with JY when I went on the Treasures of Andalcia.  I spent Christmas there and fell in love with Mijas.  It is one of the prettiest places I have visited and the people are very friendly.

I'm returning to Tuscany in May, which was my first JY holiday and is wonderful but I would also not hesitate to visit Mijas again, maybe another Christmas if the pennies allow me!

I thought the hotel was brilliant and very good value. A wide variety of food to choose from; something to to suit everyone.  The rooms are very spacious and the hotel is very clean. Lovely location within easy walking distance of the very pretty village.

Dont be misled by thinking its a small village; every time I went, I discovered something new.

The trip in the Tuk Tuk is well worth doing and Carmen, the girl that took us is lovely and very very knowledgeable since she was born there, but speaks excellent English with an American accent!

The museums in Mijas are very interesting also and worth a visit.

Dont miss the Nerja and Frigiliana trip.  Again, they are very beautiful places.

We had great weather too and I think you will have a fantastic holiday there.

Hope this is helpful and ENJOY xx

Hi

I have decided at the age of 53 to take my very first solo holiday  😞 and frankly i'm petrified, at the same time as having the most overwhelming feeling of excitement at finally (well hopefully) taking the plunge!.

It would be really lovely to have any feedback from anyone out there who has been on a Canadian package tour or are looking at going on one next May?

Or am I silly going on such a long haul trip as a first venture...

Anyway any feedback would be fab

A warm welcome to you, I have been travelling with JY SINCE 2006 I am now 60. I have travelled as far as New Zealand and as close as Paris. Most tours have been to USA including one that did include a little bit of Canada. My first ever JY tour was to USA Boston, New England & New York. I always say to people if there’s a tour you want to do GO FOR IT. Don't worry you will be fine they are great fun and your looked after.

Where clothes you can layer up or down, smart casual is the way I go. No one dresses UP, but if you want to that’s fine. Comfy shoes are a must. THE USA tours etc are full on and can be a large group which I like.

I hope you have fun go and explore the world any questions just ask

Hello all,

I have just recently discovered Just You.  I am 38 years old and although I have travelled fairly extensively in the past, I have never travelled abroad on my own.  I am completely torn over whether or not to book a trip!  I am naturally quite a shy person and I am terrified at the thought that I might really struggle on one of these trips.  Equally so, I don't think I quite yet have the nerve to go off around the world completely on my own!

I am thinking of booking somewhere in Europe to start with, maybe the Deluxe Dubrovnik trip.   From reading the reviews of this, there seems to be a nice balance between organised excursions and also free time to yourself.

Any advice would be most greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Carla

Hi Carla

I find myself in a very similar position as you were and I am also torn on weather to book a trip or not. I have been looking at the 'Sunshine Coast of Barcelona' trip for Sep as I have always wanted to visit the home of Salvidor Dali! I am working up the guts to just book it already as I have already booked the time off work!

I hope you did book your trip and that the world of JY opens new adventures to us both!

Fiona

Hi, it was so uplifting to read your message. I know there are many people who travel alone, but when you get older unfortunately you worry more. I am on my own now but have always been an avid traveller. I enjoy landscape, wildlife, have seen many historic architectural buildings in many places. I still have a a list and the very top two are Costa Rica and safari, but have many reservations, due to  age, being 63 this year. Not that age has been a problem with me before, it is the being on my own part and having the confidence. I have been on many coach touring holidays abroad and have made friends due to the type of holiday, so I suppose it is no different being on your own. Thank you for taking the time to reassure people like me, even if it is still a nerve racking thought!

Hi Chrissers,

For heavens sake do not worry about age.  I was over 70 when I had my first "solo" holiday. Never been a problem.  You will not be alone, unless there are times when you want to be.

Hi. This is my first post. I retired last year and visiting India is high on my bucket list. My husband doesn’t like long flights so I can’t persuade him to come Which is why I’m considering Just You and looking at the Spirit of India tour probably in November, possibly mid October ( we have 2 new grandchildren on the way!) I’d really appreciate any comments from anyone who had done this trip or advice about booking my first trip - I kept fluctuating between excited and apprehensive! ?

Hello Yaitch

Stop being apprehensive and just book the trip. You have already chosen a place on your bucket list so now take the plunge and book it. You will have no regrets. I have not done this trip but it is a very popular tour. Travelling with Just You is hassle and worry free and you will be with like minded people.

Kind regards

Jaya

Hi Yaitch,

I did the Spirit of India when it first came out in 2012, just after doing South Africa and Zambia, which was my favourite tour for many years!  So it was a hard act to follow.  Having said that, I really enjoyed the tour.  It is a top class itinerary and if you book it, you will see and do so much - a huge variety of experiences and seeing the best of what northern India has to offer.  I will never forget my first glimpse of the Taj Mahal, which looks even more stunning close up than it does from a distance!  I will also always cherish the amazing encounter we had with a tiger at close range, humbling and inspiring.  Varanasi was another highlight, with the incredible variety of life along the Ganges.  However, if you haven't travelled abroad much before (especially not to Asia), be prepared that northern India is not for the fainthearted!  Be prepared for an onslaught of sensory experiences - the noise, the smells, the crowds and all that entails.  I was a bit overwhelmed at times but ultimately it was worth it.  My advice - go for it, you will probably never have experienced anything like it before!  And, if you can, visit South Africa and Chile at some stage - I have visited almost 70 countries and they are at the top of my most mind-blowing experiences!

Have fun!

Bob

Hi Yaitch

I would like to echo what Bob has said about Spirit of India tour. I too have a wish list and am slowly ticking off the places to visit. I loved this trip and also really enjoyed the Kerela trip. Sri Lanka lived up to expectations as did South Africa. There are do many places to visit and my advice would also be go for it!

Hope this helps

Thank you for the advice, I'm sure that explains why I wasn't seeing very much response.

Hello, have just booked my first holiday, after being widowed earlier this year. Really nervous about everything, trying to decide if I've been brave, stupid or both. Even struggling to work out how to post on the forum

Welcome Darryl and well done on taking that first step.  I took my first step in 2014 and am about to go on my 17th solo holiday, most of them with JY.  Be warned it can be addictive.

Have a great trip wherever you are going and remember it is your holiday.
