I'm so sorry for your loss.  But you have made the right decision and on a JY tour you will not be alone and will find many others who are in similar circumstances.  Life has to move on and a lovely holiday can give us such a boost.  I hope you choose a tour that you really enjoy - all the JY Italy tours are really popular so that might be a good place to start.  Or do you have your eye on somewhere further afield?  I've travelled the world with JY, the best decision I've made in living memory!

i have read your comments on another company's forum concerning their numbering system.   I have travelled with their company several times and I have had a few negative experiences with this system.

I've just booked the JY trip to Pompeii, Sorrento on Sept 5 and I can't wait. This is my first for JY but my second solo trip as I ventured out last year with another Company to Andalucia. Totally loved it and the other travellers were great but as most were couples it really does make you feel like a spare part at times. JY sounds like the perfect solution. :)

Many thanks for your post - I've only just seen it now!  As you will have seen I did have a few reservations about their numbering system, but most seem happy with it.  I'm booked to go with them in November, so will have to see for myself.  I'm travelling with a couple of others, so will just have to grin and bear it at dinner and hopefully it won't be too bad!

I have just recently discovered Just You.  I am 38 years old and although I have travelled fairly extensively in the past, I have never travelled abroad on my own.  I am completely torn over whether or not to book a trip!  I am naturally quite a shy person and I am terrified at the thought that I might really struggle on one of these trips.  Equally so, I don't think I quite yet have the nerve to go off around the world completely on my own!  

I am thinking of booking somewhere in Europe to start with, maybe the Deluxe Dubrovnik trip.   From reading the reviews of this, there seems to be a nice balance between organised excursions and also free time to yourself.

Any advice would be most greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

I did the Deluxe Dubrovnik trip in May and it was wonderful, such a pretty area. It is scary to take your first trip like this but you soon realise that everyone's in the same boat, they are friendly and welcoming but not pushy. You sit together for most meals and that's nice as you can join in as much or as little conversation as you feel comfortable with, as the week goes on you'll feel more comfortable talking to everyone believe me.

You don't have to go on the trips out if you'd prefer some time to yourself, but I'd recommend going as they are great trips, even though the one to Mostar was a long journey for only 3 hours there, but  I was glad I'd been and seen the town, it's lovely.

My first solo trip was to Tuscany, I was worried that I'd just be sitting in my room afraid to join in with the others so I took a book - I never even opened it! I made friends there and still keep in touch with 2 ladies, in fact we're hoping to go away together next year. 

On the other hand if you do want to keep yourself to yourself then no one minds, we're all on holiday, we've all paid for it and we all realise that everyone is different.

If you have any questions just ask away, there are some lovely helpful people on this forum and no question is a silly one.

Go for it, I know you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner!

I agree with Rose and I am not the most outgoing of people but I found on the two trips I have done with JY  (a) we all have the same interest in the holiday destination we have picked and (b) we are all single travellers and you are bound to find some in the group with similar other interests as yourself. You can join in as much or as little as you like but on my two trips Tuscany in May 2018 and Sicily 2017 I met a fabulous group of people both times. On my last trip there was a younger lady in the group but age had nothing to do with it we all just joined in and had so many laughs and not to mention the odd wine etc in the bar after our evening meal together. I just wish I had found JY before I was 69 what a lot of fab holidays I missed out on. So as I have said before on here FIND IT, BOOK IT ENJOY IT

Hi Lesley I did my first JY trip in 2011 to Lake Como & am about to go to Puglia 9 Sept. This will probably be about  my 6/7th JY trip. I'm sure you will love the Tuscany holiday. I think I did that either 2013 or14 & it was such fun as about 6 of us palled up together & had a lot of laughs!

Thanks for your encouraging review. I'm slightly hesitant about my first holiday with JY in June - walking the Camino de Santiago. I've been unable to make contact with others who are on the trip, so that concerns me. But your comments plus others make me feel a bit more confident.

Two years ago I was in the same position as many of you, having lost my husband in February 2012.  A had never travelled alone, or even for that matter lived alone.  I am in my mid-70's.  I found JY and other singles holiday companies through an internet search and booked my first holiday.

I was so scared a few days before departure that I almost asked my doctor to sign me off sick so that I did not have to go and claim on the insurance!  Sense prevailed because I really knew that she wouldn't do it.

You are really "on your own" until you get to the departure airport.  Unless of course you have someone to travel with you, or take you to the airport.  From there on you will have as much or as little company as you wish.

Fellow travellers are there for the same reason you are - it is somewhere they want to visit.  Whether it is for the sights, architecture, history, food, culture, you have that in common at check-in.

I am so glad that I didn't call off that first holiday to France which was in May,  I thoroughly enjoyed it.  The age range, which was from about mid 30's to 80 really didn't matter, in fact I booked another for September to Calabria and thoroughly enjoyed that as well.  

I have two holidays booked this year - one of them with JY.

In my limited experience tour managers have been fantastic.  The second hotel was far and away better than the first, but the first was very, very good.

Organisation from departure airport - resort(s) - return airport is smooth.  Everything is done for you.  

All you have to do is choose - read any reviews on the forum that you can find - book - pay - turn up - ENJOY!!

I have just seen that you are worried about a tour being unsafe.  Please let me reassure you that travelling in a group is the safest way to travel.  Indeed that is why many of us choose to go that way.  I am much happier in a group than I am on my own, and once you meet up with the group you are not likely to be alone unless you want to be.  Have no worries about safety.
