Hi Colette

Welcome to the JY Forum and well done on taking the first steps to a lifetime of addiction to travel. The best way to choose is to go somewhere you REALLY want to go but I can recommend the Treasures of Andalucia which is one of the first ones I did. Mijas is a lovely spot and you get some free time to enjoy it.

Good luck and happy travelling.

Hi Vee!  I have just booked my first singles for the October trip to India and looking forward also with a few nerves!

I see you are off to Borneo...You will have a ball, as I have been there a number of times both with my wife when she was alive and since as a widower (my own reservations and hotel bookings) and had a super time at the Rasa Ria Resort Shangri La Hotels) just a few miles from KK (Tuaran).

The people are most friendly and food terrific and the orangs at the RRR reserve...baby, cute and good fun!

Enjoy!

Hi Folks!  I have just booked my first singles trip for the Spirit of India trip on 1 October 2018.  I know that there are a few already booked and look forward to meeting all at Heathrow (probably) for what looks like a nice holiday.

If you want to contact me then here is the place to do it!

Thanks!  🙂

Two years ago I was in the same position as many of you, having lost my husband in February 2012.  A had never travelled alone, or even for that matter lived alone.  I am in my mid-70's.  I found JY and other singles holiday companies through an internet search and booked my first holiday.

I was so scared a few days before departure that I almost asked my doctor to sign me off sick so that I did not have to go and claim on the insurance!  Sense prevailed because I really knew that she wouldn't do it.

You are really "on your own" until you get to the departure airport.  Unless of course you have someone to travel with you, or take you to the airport.  From there on you will have as much or as little company as you wish.

Fellow travellers are there for the same reason you are - it is somewhere they want to visit.  Whether it is for the sights, architecture, history, food, culture, you have that in common at check-in.

I am so glad that I didn't call off that first holiday to France which was in May,  I thoroughly enjoyed it.  The age range, which was from about mid 30's to 80 really didn't matter, in fact I booked another for September to Calabria and thoroughly enjoyed that as well.

I have two holidays booked this year - one of them with JY.

In my limited experience tour managers have been fantastic.  The second hotel was far and away better than the first, but the first was very, very good.

Organisation from departure airport - resort(s) - return airport is smooth.  Everything is done for you.

All you have to do is choose - read any reviews on the forum that you can find - book - pay - turn up - ENJOY!!

If anyone wants to contact me "off forum" JY have my email address.

Happy travelling.

Sylvia

Thank you for posting this. I'm taking my first solo holiday with JY this May and I'm feeling a little nervous for the same reasons you have given re travelling solo.  I feel a little more relaxed now..

Just plucking up the courage to make my first booking - any suggestions for a good holiday to start with, not a big fan of just sitting in the sun, would like to find something interesting and not too lengthy as a starter.

Im booked on the Treasures of Andalucia towards the end of March, any advice or tips will be gratfully received and read.. probably several times!

Would be really interested to hear how you get on - am still in the 'dithering' stage.

Hello

I have just joined JY and will be travelling to the classic citys of Italy late June 2018.

I’m a bit anxious about travelling on my own as this is my 1st trip since the break up of my long time marriage.

I’m wondering if there’s anyone else booked to go on the same trip going through a similar experience perhaps to share ideas and experiences with.

Good evening everyone,

Just booked my trip to Kenya for this October, my first ever trip by myself  😞 and although half of me is nervous and the other half cannot wait, not only for this new adventure, in my life but also to meet my fellow travellers.

It all sounds so exciting.

I was told initially that 10 persons had already booked, therefore hello to you all.

Those experience travellers amongst  you, I would really appreciate , any tips or advise that you can offer to, a first timer like myself. Such like deciding on what type of luggage I should used, considering we will be staying one to two nights at different locations throughout this trip.

Any suggestions?

Best wishes

Pepperpot

Hi Pepperpot

Welcome to JY and congratulations on booking the first of no doubt many trips.  You may be better posting questions in the section Ask your Fellow Travellers under your specific holiday.  As a guide though have a look at packing cubes which are brilliant for holidays where you are moving around.

Hi Pepperpot

You have chosen a truly amazing holiday as your first Just You experience. I went to Kenya in September last year and had a wonderful time. Since all your travelling is in a Jeep, try not to take a hard backed case. The smaller the case the better. Also it is advisable to take a small back pack or similar for hand luggage instead of a case as space is limited. Look under review section and you will find my review of this trip plus another traveller, Sally, too has done a review of her 2016 trip. Do feel free to ask any questions.

Kind regards

Jaya

Hi Pepperpot

Over the last 12 years I have been on 18 Just You tours, some short haul some long. My first one was to India when I was very nervous about travelling alone, but it was great. I have never looked back.

I have been to Kenya twice and it remains one of my favourite trips and I am sure that you will have an excellent time.

kind regards

Di

Hi Rose,

You have taken the first step by joining the forum, & for me it really is the safest way to travel, you will be very well looked after. You'll find that once you meet up with your fellow travellers those nerves will disappear. So go for it, I don't think you will have any regrets.

Regards Barb
