Wow that was so great to read! I am 57, widowed 7 weeks ago and just booked a trip to Iceland in March to cheer myself up very much with my heart in my mouth. I shall look forward to the break even more now. Thank you!

I've just joined, not booked yet. Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask but I'm vegetarian, not really traveled abroad, am I easy to cater for?

I am a solo traveller for the first time in over 50 years my husband now doesn't want to travel far.  Would like to do the Carcassonne holiday but am fearful about the whole scenario!  I'd like to go in June, are there any older women thinking of doing this trip and if they live in Hertfordshire maybe we could meet first?

Hi Penny.

Welcome to the Forum.  Your thread would be better as a new one as it has got a bit lost in all the posts here, but to answer your question.  All the holidays I have been on (6 to date), any vegetarians in the group have been well looked after.  If you find a holiday you like, ask the editor if you want reassurance or look for a review of the holiday.  There are loads on the forum.

Good luck

Hi Janet

I well understand your fears but all of us were nervous the first time and have never looked back.  The age range on tours varies according to activity level but is generally 50+ to 80 and most tours have more ladies than gents.   Look for a review of the holiday to help you get a wider view of what is involved and then ask the editor any questions you want to know.  It is possible to be put in touch with other forum members if they are willing to pass on their contact details.

Hi Penny,

As long as you let JY know when you book your holiday they will make sure you are catered for.  That said I know from past experience with others I have travelled with, that not every country you visit will have a wide choice for vegetarians.  So I would ask the question in the forum and usually someone can advise you based on where you wish to travel to.

Hi Janet,

Rest assured - single travellers are very friendly people and you will be very well looked after by JY.  The worst bit for me when I first travelled on my own was the Airport.  But if you attach your JY label to your hand luggage, you  usually meet up with other travellers in advance of getting on the plane and before you know it you have made friends already...  Travelling with a company like JY will mean that you travel with a group of like-minded people, in a safe environment.  You wont ever be alone unless you want to.  If you have some time take a look at all the wonderful reviews from people who like you were once first time travellers.  The biggest issue you will have is that as soon as you come home you'll already be trying to decide on where to go next.

Hi Janet

My husband doesn't want to do tours, I have been travelling the world with JY since 2006, you will be fine, just pick where you want to go and book it you will have fun, it's a very safe way to travel. Any other questions just ask..

Like you I am a vegetarian I do eat some fish, I have been on 11 JY tours, if you book a tour mention it when you make your booking so the airline know in advance it then should also be in the notes for the tour managers records.

I have had some weird meals dished up to me on my travels...as a vegetarian. Some countries do not get us strange folk. I tend to take some pasta meals or cup a soups with me just in case, and other nibbles.

Good luck any other questions just ask..

Hi Penny

I too am a vegetarian and I have had no problems on the 12 Just You holidays I have been on to date. I do not take any food with me. I am not very fussy when I travel and manage with whatever I get!

Hi Maureen - good for you!  This is a tour I have my eye on, having visited Florence many years ago.  I know a number of people who have done the Just You Tuscany tour and they have loved it, so I am sure you will have a great time!

Best wishes,

Bob

Thank you for the replies to my question about being veggie on a trip. I was looking at a Paris weekend as a starting point, I've only been to France twice on day trips so I had no idea. I'm not too fussy and can survive on basics for a weekend-and porridge is handy to pack!
