Hiya all,

I had been having reservations about going away as never been on holiday on my own before either and was worried about being too young. But this thread has put my mind at rest and will be looking to go somewhere this year with JY. At 47 I now feel a little daft thinking I might of been too young after seeing the variety of ages on here πŸ™‚ .

So thank you all for the info.

I am 32 and have been on two JY holidays. There was a wide mix of ages on both trips including a couple of people that were younger than me. Ages varied from mid 20s to 80s!! I made some good friends of a variety of ages and still keep in touch with them. Everyone makes an effort to include everyone and get on with each other. on JY holidays people want to have fun and spend time with like minded people that want to see the country they are visiting.

Age has never been a problem on any of my JY tours. Fitness and health is far more important. On three long haul tours I have seen under forties so large they needed a double coach seat to themselves! and were out breath after a few steps, while fit oldies nearly twice their age strode past with ease. Sadly I have also seen people of all ages struggle with pre-existing health probrems that meant visits to local doctors and hospitals. Twice, diabetics have badly miscalculated insulin timings due to time differences with the UK

I agree with Sarah - health and fitness are more important than age - age is just a number!

Yes I also agree it's the fitness that's more important than age, I have been out walked many a time by a MUCH older traveller...also the tours I go on I am tired and need sleep, where as some of the older! Ones stay up much longer than I do..

I agree too that fitness is more important than age, but I also believe that holiday companies should take some responsibility in ensuring the correct information about the level of fitness needed for a holiday is made clear.

That's why it’s great to be able to read the reviews of other travellers (good or bad), as it actually gives you a feel for the holiday. Half the time, a bad review is just the interpretation between what you thought you were getting based on the glossey brochure description, and the actual reality of what you got! Forewarned is defintely forearmed

Here's hoping I can keep up with everyone old or young, on my next holiday!!!

There are only 67 days to go!!

Hi Kezzer

I am sure you will keep up with everyone! It does not matter if you are a bit slow sometimes - that's the beauty of Just You holidays in that you do as much as you can and want to.

Regards

Jaya

I'm 60 now and have had my last few birthdays with JY.

I think the eldest person I met was a lovely very fit man on the last Cilento trip. I think he was in his early 80's and astonished us all with his level of fitness.

I'm finding all this age talk quite depressing. On any package tour, unless geared to any specific age group you will find a wide range of ages. The common denominator for JY tour is single travellers. If age range and gender mix is of paramount importance, check before you book.

For those that have been on a JY tour it most certainly is not an issue, but for those that have not been on a tour yet, I can understand their question. For me age, gender mix, tour managers name, group size etc, is not important for others it is.

Thanks everyone!! All your replies are very reassuring. You sound like a lovely friendly bunch! I certainly agree that age is just a number and it all depends on your attitude to life! I know that I find it easy to meet and get on well with new people so I'm not scared about that. I do generally feel young at heart and am still reasonably fit but suddenly feel I have aged this last year in some way ( am now 67). That is why I desperately need a holiday to regain my joie de vivre! Can't wait!

:angel:I am so relieved reading all the comments - I will be going on the Spirit of India tour on 16th March. This is my first holiday with JY - I have also met other people who have travelled with JY and have been told 'absolutely 1st class ' - do you know how many people have booked for 16th March ? Pat.

Hello Maggie! I shall be 67 this summer! I've been doing these tours for three years now and I am so inspired by them. I've got the next four holidays in the bag already. And I count the days until that suitcase comes out of the cupboard once more. I still work part-time to pay for my habit πŸ™‚
