I'm going on this trip and have got £200 in Egyptian, similar in English and $140 US. Ready for all eventualities, hopefully. See you Tuesday. Sheila

I went on a Nile cruise and I took Sterling, Egyptian pounds and some American dollars, all are acceptable. I know it is complicated taking three currencies but it seemed to work and I have been to Egypt twice.

Hi again Mill

I am only taking Egyptian pounds, seems logical to me as we are going to Egypt. Freinds of mine have just come back from there and they said make sure you have lots of small denomination notes in egyptian pounds for tips etc as everyone who does anything for you will expect some kind of tip, and also some cheap pens to give to the children. Not long now!

Thanks for all the advice. I think as suggested I will take some of each currency. One more question--do the Nile cruise boats supply towels (in cabins and for pool) or is it advisable to take own?

Hi there Mill, I am going on the Nile cruise on 2nd March 2010 and staying overnight at the Premier Inn. Have you been able to find out about pool towels on the ship. This is my first time wtih Just You.

Hi Gwen,

I went on the February 2nd Nile Cruise. It was great. The ships have pool towels by the swimming pool and towels in the room.

I took £100 sterling in Egyptian pounds and changed some more sterling into Egyptian pounds while I was there - the hotel in Cairo had a 24 hour bank however the ship does not change money , and banks are closed Friday and Saturday.

We needed US Dollars to pay for the extra trips with JustYou - you will get a letter about 2 weeks before you go - about $300 - so I took $600

I also took sterling. Credit cards are accepted at major stores and to pay the bill on the ship at the end of the week. However Egyptian currency is best for street markets and haggling.

Have a good trip

Colin

Take Sterling only and change at bank kiosks at Egyptian airport whilst everyone else is queuing for immigration. Quick service and good rates.
