Hi Everyone

I've finally taken the plunge & booked India after pondering for nearly 3 years. I'm soooo excited as I've always wanted to go there. I finally came to realise that if I waited for someone to come with me I might not ever get to see it. Just You has answered all my problems & I think its going to be a fab holiday.

Does anyone have any advice ? This is my first holiday alone & as everyone else I'm a little nervous.

Thanks

Hi Linda,

This is a fantastic tour - of all my 14 JY trips it is still top of the list as my favourite!

If you go on to the Review section you will see a review from last year of this tour.

A couple of things I would advise - it is vital that you take rehydration salts, anti-bacterial gel & wipes and imodium! You need to use the gel or wipes all the time, especially when handling money as Indian rupees tend to be well used! I also went vegetarian which helped enormously. Do not have ice in anything, don't eat the salads, even in top class hotels, or ice cream. Anything basically that has been washed in water or that you cannot peel!

If you are a keen photographer, India is paradise! You will need lots of spare batteries, memory cards, chargers (check if you need a special adapter for India) etc. etc. The trip is quite tiring with lots of very early starts, but worth it 100%. My highlights were the Taj Mahal (however many pictures you have seen of it, at sunrise it is just magical), seeing 3 tigers at Ranthambore, and Varanasi at dawn is very moving.

Your senses will be bombarded with colours, smells and sounds.

Have a fantastic time!

Cheers,

Hils

Hi

I did this trip in 2012. It was an amazing experience and I will never forget seeing tiger's at,Rathambore, the Taj Mahal at sunrise and sailing on the Ganges at dawn and dusk. You will be affected by the obvious poverty of some people but hopefully this will change as the Indian economy grows.

This is a very hectic tour with a lot of travelling but well worth it.

Hope this helps

Hi Linda,

I did this tour three years ago and really enjoyed it. Go with an open mind and be prepared for lots of early starts, crowds, litter and unpleasant odours at times but that is all part of the craziness that is India! I had many great experiences on this tour - I really enjoyed the Amber Fort and of course seeing the Taj Mahal up close was brilliant. Varanasi was a wonderful experience as well. Best of all, we had a close encounter with a tiger in Ranthambore! Go to your local medical centre about two months before you travel to get all the jabs you'll need and get a travel probiotic to help keep your stomach healthy - I use Boots Digestion Support Travel and found them to be good - you might still have a dodgy tummy for a day or two, but it shouldn't be too bad! I had no problems with mosquitoes on this tour, but bring some repellent just in case. No need for anti-malaria tablets. Think that covers the basics. I am sure you will have an amazing time!

Best wishes,

Bob

Hello Linda,

I have written about this in one of the threads somewhere but since you have asked for advice, I am repeating it.

I am of Indian origin and settled here since 1968. I visit my family every 2-3 years. No matter how careful I was, I used to get the runs every single time. Then I read about Yakult. I have Yakult for at least 2 weeks every morning before the departure. Amazingly, I didn't get ill at all during my last 4 visits, but I was still very careful about what I ate and drank.

Have a good time in India and do not succumb to the beggar pressure!
