Just a note of warning, public toilets in china are mostly the squat type with no loo paper, so be prepared with tissues and wet wipes, have a great time - I did. beatie.

Hello Beatie

I knew about the no toilet roll thing.

I have bought from Morrisons supermarket, little packs of portable toilet roll.

They are made by andrex and should be ideal for this situation.

I will report back at the end of October when I come back.

Can you answer me one thing.

I received my holiday pack yesterday, and was wondering about the instructions on the overnight bag.

I am ok with the taking of the bag. I am just a bit confused with the moving of the suitcase from bejing to xian.

Do we need to pack enough in the overnight bag to last for the days 5/6/7/8 and 9.?

Or do we meet up with our suitcase on day 7 when we arrive to the hotel for a two night stay.?

Is the suitcase at this hotel, or do we only see it again on day 10 when we get to the airport to fly home.?

Do we have time to stuff the overnight bag and it's contents into the suitcase before check in.

Don't fancy carrying dirty clothes in the overnight bag onto the plane, would much rather get rid and just carry what I need.

Sorry lots of questions, but, I bet the rest of the group flying out on the 20th October will now be wondering the same thing after reading the information pack.

Many thanks for your help.

Hi, I went on this holiday in July and had a fantastic time. You leave your suitcase in Bejing when you travel on the train to Chengde. When you get back to Bejing you collect your suitcase at the airport before you check in to fly to Xian. I hope this helps

Hi san2 you only need to pack an overnight bag for 2 days but the tour manager will give you all the details and tell you what to do and you do have time to sort out your suitcase etc. at the airport. I returned from china last friday and had a wonderful time (are you doing the yangtze add-on) the hotels you stay in are excellent but days are rather hectic sometimes lots of steps (2 wonderful chinese theatre shows) and a suprise at Xian hope you enjoy it as much as I did I would be interested to know beatie.

I went to China early in Sept. When travelling to Chengde, suitcases are left at the hotel in Beijing and then they are brought to the airport ready for the flight to Xian. There is time at the airport to pack the stuff from the small bag you take to Chengde, before checking in for the flight to Xian.

The station at Beijing is very busy and I would advise only taking what you really need to Chengde. I took way too much and it was heavy to carry at the station. Hotel in Chengde does not provide free bottled water, powdered milk or coffee.Hope this helps.

Hi Sandra

Everything that Eileen say is correct. You need enough clothes for 2 days tavelling.

1 Beijing > Chengde and 1 return. Plus you will need enough for 1 complete (and busy) day & 2 nights in Chengde.

You will get your case back at Beijing airport with enough time to repack before checking in for your flight to Xian.

You will have a fanastic time.. Enjoy.

Hello Everyone

Many thanks for all the information. It's so nice to get such a good response.

I think I mis read the information and convinced my self I would not see my suitcase again until I was flying home.

I can now start planning what to take and when for. I know it will be a little colder than when you all went, so am packing to layer up.

And I coat for if it rains.

Any tips about this would be greatfully received. :-)

Hi Sandra

I was on this trip in May this year, we had a fabulous time but found it very tiring it was non stop every day. We never had time to go back to the hotel to change for dinner so we ate in the clothes we had been wearing all day, that happened every single day, needless to say most of the clothes we took never got wore, so don't over pack. Hope you had a great time.

Best Wishes
