Hi, a question for those of you that have been to Sri Lanka, I'm going in October and wondering what is the best currency to take or can you pay by card in most places? Thanks Sharon

Hi Sharon.  I notice you are on the Sri Lanka trip in October - so am I!  I came into this site to see if I could find fellow travellers and hopefully exchange tips and other useful information ahead of the trip.  As for currency, I gather we can't get it until we are there.  I've got a Monzo card which seems to be a good way of taking "virtual" currency and avoiding high exchange rates.  Very excited for the holiday!  What are you most looking forward to?

Hi Izzy & Sharon,

I'm on the October trip to Sri Lanka as well.

I've ordered a mixture of Sri Lankan rupees and US dollars through M & S. it's taking a while for them to get it but is coming.

I'm stressing about the size of suitcase they stipulate. Wanted to take my large case as it's 2 weeks I'm going for but the size they quote is smaller. Going to ring them later as I want to do the yoga when I'm there. Look forward to meeting you both x

Hi. Did you have any luck with the suitcase size?  I'm hoping to take my large case too.

Hi IzzyC and Ster1le63,

sorry for late reply, really looking forward to the start of our Sri Lanka adventure tomorrow.

Like you I was struggling with a small case so I'm taking my large case. I was told that we can exchange currency at the airport in Sri Lanka and also the hotels.

I'm planning to go to the airport lounge in T3 so if you are in there also we can meet up.  See you tomorrow 😊
