Hi, I am on the May 20th Pompeii trip. My first with JY. I have done a few cruises solo but wanted to try something different. Similar to a previous poster, I've retired and it's been on my list so thought this might be a good way to do it. Looking forwards to it and slightly anxious at the same time!

Hi Pam

Don't be anxious - you will have a fantastic time! I've done this tour before with both JY and Travelshere and am doing the Travelsphere version again in June.

My top tips would be:

  • Even in May, the Bay of Naples is likely to be extremely hot (and there is little shade on the Pompeii site itself). Take a brimmed hat, comfortable walking shoes with closed toes and a water bottle to ensure you remain hydrated. I would also recommend a rechargable neck fan which you can get from Amazon for about £24. They last for hours on one charge - enough for a whole day walking round - and are very quiet. I was the envy of my group last time I was there in 2023!

  • Take plenty of sunscreen and mozzi repellant (Jungle formula or similar)

  • The Hotel Palma where you will be staying is family run and in the centre of modern Pompeii. It's next to the cathedral square and a station for the Circumvesuviana train if you want to explore in your free time. But, if taking the train, watch your bags and jewellery - there are pickpockets about.

  • If you do an excursion to Capri and are not bothered by heights - have a ride on the chair lift up to Monte Solaro from Ana Capri - it's about 14Euro return and the views are incredible.

  • In between the hotel and the archeological site of Pompeii, you will find the Pasticceria De Vivo. If you like gelatto or pastries, you will want more than one visit - trust me :-)

Happy to help if you have any other questions
