It had been a while since going with JY at Christmas - my most memorable being Liverpool 10 years ago which was the best!!
Harrogate was entirely different!! When i booked in October JY didnt know what entertainment would be on at hotel but advised there would be something. That "something" turned out to be quizes and bingo and a singer in the dining room on Boxing Day!! There was really no entertainment, no dancing either. If thats what you like then this is for you. If you want a livelier Christmas then I would chose another venue/company.
The hotel was lovely as a Crowne Plaza should be - huge rooms, huge TV and wonderful views from a height (which I had requested and got). The group of 37? was held together by our Tour Leader Tracey who indeed was experienced and efficient as a Tour Leader, however I would say perhaps not so experienced in dealing with a Singles Group which calls for a special type of person! No effort to let the group mix and mingle. tables for 4 or 6 in the dining is not conducive to mixing and encourages cliques, which indeed there were. Some people had obviously met before and indeed came with friends...why would you go on a singles holiday with a friend?Seats were kept at tables/in the bar - again very annoying! At breakfast there should not have been a "sit anywhere in dining room"policy as everyone spread out!! We should have at least been in one area and able to discuss the day ahead!
However our meals at hotel were very good, apart from Christmas Eve! Christmas Day lunch was excellent tho and all other meals and breakfasts were good. No Christmas morning treats tho - no salmon with scrambled egg and no Bucks Fizz!
Our trip to York on Christmas Eve was excellent, made special by a fantastic executive coach and very lively driver!! I chose not to do the racing day, but visited friends instead, however all seemed to enjoy it!
The age group/abilities were vast. many had no idea of timings etc despite the Tour Leader repeating many times!!. (we should have had typed up notes!) .I rather thought some were on the wrong holiday - including myself!
Altogether very good, I met some lovely people but as a School Report says "could have done better"!
