Has anybody toured Sri Lanka as I am going next month and if so has anybody any useful tips, and how expensive or reasonable are the prices of food, drink, and things in general.

I went to Sri Lanka A few years ago with a another singles company as they had a cancellation, had no real desire to go there but thought it would be a taster for India!  I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed the trip and having been in India since there is really no comparison.

Everything was cheap as I remember.  You are half board so you won’t need much extra food.  The food was delicious and not spicy and drinks were reasonable in the hotels.  Got sterling exchanged at hotels along the way.

Just You don’t include the elephant orphanage which was a highlight of my trip though there was some elephant exploitation which I didn’t like and didn’t support eg riding elephants, etc.  However it was quite a sight seeing so many elephants in one place being pampered and generally well looked after.

Stock up on Dilmah tea which is three times the price at home and also real Ceylon cinnamon.

I see you have one stay at a Cinnamon Lodge.  This chain is fantastic, just watch the monkeys, and don’t leave any windows open!
