I've recently returned from the Amazing Australia trip (brilliant!), where we stayed in a couple of Holiday Inn hotels.

Unlike the rest of the hotels on the tour, there was no free WiFi, but we found that by joining the HI 'club' immediately on arrival at the first one, we were then entitled to free, unlimited Wifi in all areas and the membership carried over to the next HI hotel as well.

The membership is free - why on earth doesn't the company doesn't just open up the WiFi to everyone?

I found most of the hotels we stopped in on the oz tour had free wifi especially the city ones, you usually had to ask for a wifi code at reception, I found the one in Alice Springs had free wifi too but only found this out on the morning of departure but the hotel in Melbourne just had I think just the one computer in the corner for use, I agree that wifi is such a big thing these days and that it should be more widely available in hotels

TO BE HONEST ONE good thing about going away is I leave my WIFI head at home, yes I take my mobile, to be used in emergencys other wise I go cold turkey and unplug myself for the holiday duration.

I personally do not take anything with me which requires WiFi. I am trying to get away from all these mod cons whilst I am on holiday!

Currently doing Amazing Australia and free WiFi does seem to be rarer than anywhere else I have visited. As far as I concerned WiFi is pretty much essential whilst abroad, particularly for longer periods. I need it to top up my Travel Money Card, update Facebook so family know all is OK, choosing my own plane seat in advance of flying, checking the weather, listening to online BBC news, etc. Last night searched for a good review for Thai restaurant and walking directions to it. And most importantly reading this forum. Free WiFi as part of the package? Yes please.
