Living near LHR I know many people who work at the airport baggage handlers and on security, any lock they can get into and have a look at STUFF and lock it back up so you wouldn't know, so I think why bother, if any one wants to have a look they are more than welcome!!!

We would not have this problem if all countries followed the security procedures in Israel. Over there your suitcase is screened before you check in so you are there if they either want to ask you additional questions about what is in the suitcase or the suitcase needs opening. You can then lock the suitcase and do not have to worry about it being opened whilst you are not there. Years ago, when security was not so tight, you locked the suitcases to prevent theft!
