So, there I was, travelling Downtown on the famous Las Vegas Deuce Bus last Friday. As I stood up to step off, I realised that the man in front of me who had pushed the driver alert button for my stop was wearing a sparkly white high collared jump suit, thick sunglasses and a sporting a, suspiciously perfec,t huge black quiff. Sadly, I wasn't close enough to hear whether he said "Thank you very much" to the driver as he stepped off....

That's how it is and always should be in Fabulous Las Vegas. Fun, surreal and gloriously nuts. But, all that changed on Sunday night. The 13th September JY US Parks group were in the City last week at the end of our tour and flew home safely on Friday evening. We had been staying at the Tropicana (where many of the survivors ran for cover on Sunday night) and several us had visited the Luxor, next door to the Mandalay Bay, on Friday on see the Titanic exhibition. I suspect that many of my newly made friends in the group are feeling as shell shocked and stunned as I am at the moment.

I'll be writing my promised review of the whole tour in the next few days but, for now, my usual daft sense of humour just doesn't feel appropriate. In the meantime, I'm sure everyone on the Community will join me in sending their thoughts and condolences to all those affected by the horrific events of Sunday evening on the Strip in Las Vegas.

All the best for now

Mandy

Very well put Mandy. So glad to hear you all got home safely and am looking forward to your review, even if it is bit more muted than usual.

Hello Mandy,

A friend was staying at the Mandalay last week before travelling up to New York. She arrived home yesterday morning. She is devastated that one mans barbaric act destroyed her holiday memories. We wait for your review when you are ready x

Hi Mandy

My condolences also to those affected by the tragic events of Sunday evening.

Look forward to your review, which I shall comment on too.  Also, were you on the same holiday as me or are you jet-lagged?  I travelled back on Thursday 28th arriving in LHR on Friday 29th.....

Hi Mandy,

I’m very pleased to hear that you’ve arrived home safely, and of course my thoughts and condolences go out to all those caught up in Sunday’s horrific events. I’ll look forward to reading your review as I was on this tour 4 years ago.

Unfortunately, this type of event is all too common in America, whether it be at theatres, concerts, or school and college campuses. I guess that until someone has the guts to take on the NRA, and until they finally acknowledge the link between mass shootings and the ease of gun ownership, then sadly these atrocities will continue to happen. It’s all so very sad.

Take care

Mike

Hi Mandy,

Just to echo what others have said, glad you are safely home and for expressing how many of us feel at this time.  Looking forward to reading your review when you feel in the frame of mind for writing it.

Take care,

Bob

Hi Mandy

First of all glad that you and the others on the trip have arrived back safely. I was horrified and shocked to see the news on TV and read all the details in the news paper. I agree with Mike's comments that as long as weapons are freely available such incidents will carry on happening. USA did not change the laws when school children were slaughtered, so not sure if anything will change now. It beggars belief as to how easily one can obtain machine guns. God only knows why this guy did what he did. I also wonder why no one noticed him carrying so many suitcases up to his room - surely this would have raised suspicion, but we are talking about USA. We are living in a 'mad' world but have to remain positive and think of all the good things.

Look forward to reading your review.

Kind regards

Jaya

Fair point, well made, Sylvia! But, in my defence, I didn't get back to Jersey until Saturday night and it's easy to get confused at my age :s

Thanks for your comments, Everyone - review in progress.

Hi Everyone

Apologies for the further delay. I'm not sure if you'll believe me when I explain that, in the last 48 hours, my shower hose perished, I chipped a tooth on a piece of taffy that I brought back from Salt Lake, my dishwasher went rogue and flooded my kitchen and then a branch fell on my head in a cemetery. Nope I don't believe it either...!

Review very soon, I promise

All the best

Mandy

P.S Not injured - just sitting on a path with leaves in my hair staring up at an oak tree and shouting "Really?!"

Hi Mandy I hope someone has recorded all these events for posterity, it would make a great video on YouTube!  Glad you have survived all these calamities relatively unscathed and looking forward to the review whenever you have finished therapy....    😞

Cheers,

Bob

Oh Mandy, what rotten luck.

But better that these things happen at home rather than whilst you're away. Better still to not happen at all!

Be safe......

Oh dear Mandy - glad to know that you are okay despite all the mishaps. Hopefully the run of bad luck is over.
