Hi,

I will be doing this tour next year and one of the day trips is to Amalfi and Ravello. Having been on this trip before, i was wondering whether the tour manager has any suggestions as to other nearby places that are worth a visit if they were to take this day off?

Thanks

Hi Monty,

Hi Mark,

The tour manager will be able to advise you on arrival, also the hotel may have some excursions/information on other places to visit.

I have spoken to one of our overseas service executives, who has said that Naples and Paestum spring to mind for places to visit. These are places we do not offer in our optional excursion programme. However, it would be advisable to look into how easy they are to get to from the hotel - even though they are close to the train station.

Kindest regards,

Monty

Hi Mark.

Speaking from experience 😛 with the hotel being so close to the Circumvesuviana you can get into Sorrento very easily and then use the local transport. Positano the first stop on the Amalfi Drive is great, lots of steps though! Nice beach and lots of shopping.

I haven't spent a lot of time in Naples apart from getting down to the docks (as I told you in France/Belgium), BUT there is the Castle there and the Archeological Museum.

Also if you made your own way to Sorrento and made a day of it you could do your own thing and get across to Capri. I would defy anyone to get lost there and you would probably see a lot more than you would on the tour with no disrespect. 😃

Hi Monty,

In relation to Bosuncat's comment, how easy is it to get to Positano from where we are based?

Thanks

I might yet be tempted back!! :D

The local buses used to leave from the main square in Sorrento right against the entrance to Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria. Not saying they still do, but you could take the whole of the Amalfi Drive on one of them (which is a WONDERFUL experience) but they drop off on the roadside leading down to Positano and then you have loads of steps leading down to a rather good beach. I remember lots of shops on the way down and cafes etc. I always liked Positano but you can also get to Minori and Maiori on that route before it goes into Amalfi. We only went down to Amalfi once which is why I only ever got to Ravello this last time I went to Cilento. We always used to go in the winter and the local buses didn't run up to Ravello in the winter. As you know it's at a bit of a height!

Hi Mark,

You could take the train from Pompeii to Sorrento and then from Sorrento take a taxi or public bus to Positano, or even take the ferry from Sorrento marina to Positano.

Kindest regards,
