Having now been on 10 JY tours I have noticed a wide difference

Between one manager and another..also public opinion is they can make or

Break a tour.

Would it be possible for you to say what it is a manager should

Be doing for the group what and where they are responsible for.

Hi Cindy,

I'm sorry for the delay in coming back to you on this one. Unfortunately my 'go to' colleague on all things Tour Manager related has been on annual leave but I now have a response for you....

The contracted role of our Tour Managers is:

* To escort customers throughout their holiday

* Manage the operational aspects of the tour from the day of departure to day of return

* Bring the tour to life by demonstrating knowledge of the destination and being able to give an insight into the local life

* Share a passion for travel

* Deliver great customer service.

I understand that you have recently been in touch with our customer care team who have informed me that they will be contacting you directly.

Kindest regards,

Julia

Glad you brought the subject up Cindy, and good to see the JY response. In a nutshell, be all things to all people. Just back from New England with the best tour manager I've had. Yvette will a very hard act to follow.

Hello Cindy and Julia,

I went for an interview as a TM with a well known company. They asked for new TMs.

Job I would like to do and new. Managed the first part well, 5 minutes to talk as if you are taking people on a trip. I took my group to the Roswell Museum. Think I gave the TM some ideas for his next group. I was told to go away and take some tours and then come back in a years time. I asked how I was supposed to get the experience if they wanted new TM, no answer.

The 5 TMs that I have been with have been very different. Read from their notes or use the local guides and sit back. Only one to Lake Garda was amazing in 2011. She made the tour come alive. Gave us ideas on what to see, rub Juliets' breast in Verona, then negotiated deals with the gondola for 25 euros and to have tea and cake sitting on St Marks Square for 8 euros in Venice.

I wonder if you are talking about Yvette Barnett, if so she was my TM when I went to Nepal in 2009, and in 16 JY holidays she was the best TM I have ever had, although some have come close non have ever topped her, she is my No.1. Every time I book a holiday I hope Yvette will be our TM but unfortunately I have never seen her again.

There are some really good TM's out there but also a few who don't come up to scratch.
