Thanks Angie.  Something to look forward to over winter months. Looking forward to meeting everyone then.

Thinking of booking this tour for May 2017 but had a look online at hotels and ones in Tibet much poorer standard and not good reviews.  Dilemma will sights make up for poor accommodation ? Interested to hear what others think.

Hello Alison

I was in Tibet with TS a week ago, and the rooms we had there (in the Kyichu Hotel in Lhasa and the Gyantse Hotel in Gyantse) were fine, both hotels having undergone some refurbishment. The hotel for the add-on in HKG (where I am now) is very comfortable. The sights - including a wonderful journey between Lhasa and Gyantse - would certainly have  compensated for any deficiencies in the accommodation, had there been any.

The weather was very good, too: blue skies with sunshine in Tibet, and  27degC here in HKG today!

The max. height reached was about 5000m on one of the three mountain passes between Lhasa and Gyantse, but none of us had any significant altitude-related problems.

I assume JY is using the same hotels so, if  were you, I would go ahead.

Jim

PS - with reference to a thread elsewhere about tour managers: our TM has exactly six days back home before returning to China with another, much larger,  tour party . . . . .

Thanks for your thoughts on hotels.

Yes both hotels are listed on ROTW itinerary as well so reassuring that some remedial works have taken place recently.

Since posting my original message I have booked my space on the tour leaving in May 2017 after other favourable thoughts were posted and am looking forward to it.

Thanks

Alison

As some are aware flights for the ROTW tour were initially going to be with British Airways direct from London - Chengdu.  Following BA's noted intention to stop this route I have now been advised by Just You that flights for the tour in May 2017 will be with KLM between London (Heathrow - LHR) - Amsterdam (AMS) - Chengdu (CTU) and vice versa.

Outgoing (14 May) times I believe are 17:10 LHR - 19:35 AMS; then 21:05 AMS - 12:50 (Monday) CTU.

Inward (29 May) times 14:35 CTU - 19:05 AMS; then 20:30 AMS - 20:55 LHR.

I know there has been some dialogue regarding the flights so hopefully this helps.

I tried to book for  3 September 2017, but was told flight upgrades were not available yet; the agent had no idea when they would be. Moderator, can you find this information please.

Good Afternoon SarahS,

I hope you are having a good day so far.

I have just spoken to my colleague about this and I have been told that if you give the contact center a call, they will be able to give you more information.

Kind Regards,

Mildred
