Thinking of booking this tour for May 2017 but had a look online at hotels and ones in Tibet much poorer standard and not good reviews. Dilemma will sights make up for poor accommodation ? Interested to hear what others think.
Hello Alison
I was in Tibet with TS a week ago, and the rooms we had there (in the Kyichu Hotel in Lhasa and the Gyantse Hotel in Gyantse) were fine, both hotels having undergone some refurbishment. The hotel for the add-on in HKG (where I am now) is very comfortable. The sights - including a wonderful journey between Lhasa and Gyantse - would certainly have compensated for any deficiencies in the accommodation, had there been any.
The weather was very good, too: blue skies with sunshine in Tibet, and 27degC here in HKG today!
The max. height reached was about 5000m on one of the three mountain passes between Lhasa and Gyantse, but none of us had any significant altitude-related problems.
I assume JY is using the same hotels so, if were you, I would go ahead.
Jim
PS - with reference to a thread elsewhere about tour managers: our TM has exactly six days back home before returning to China with another, much larger, tour party . . . . .
