I did this tour with the Cambodia add-on last February and had a fantastic time. I do hope you book and if at all possible, do Cambodia as well - those who just booked Vietnam on our tour were very envious of us and we all really enjoyed Cambodia. I wrote a review of the tour which is currently on page 3 of the Reviews forum - it might help you to make up your mind! I'd gladly answer any questions you may have. Just one thing - you'd have to hurry to get your visa in time!! The weather was mild/damp in Hanoi and Halong Bay and fine elsewhere, especially good in Hoi An and Phnom Penh. The highlights for me were seeing Halong Bay (even though it was foggy - usual for there, so don't believe all the sunny pictures you see!), Hoi An and all of Cambodia (a great experience).
