I've done loads of singles holidays and breaks but never with Just You. Is is OK to admit I normally travel with Solo's Holidays? I've had a great time with them but I'm thinking of deserting them next year for the Jordan holiday in September with Just You.

So I want to know what I'd be letting myself in for. Something that concerns me a bit is the lack of age bands. I get the impression that Just You attracts somewhat older people than Solo's. I'm early 50s and happy to mix with all ages but wouldn't want to be the only one under 70!

And has anyone else been to Jordan? I've long wanted to visit Petra - will it match up to my high expectations?

Welcome to you, I am 52 and have been travelling with JY for 5 years now, I have done 7 tours with New Zealand booked for 2012.

The Main age group is late 50's to mid 70's with younger and older either side. More ladies than Men. So I would say you would be in the younger age range, but not neccaserily (? Oops spelling) the youngest. I have not been on the Jordan tour so I hope you get your answer to that question.

You can ask Olly the Editor on that board or ask the girls on the end of the phones how many have booked and what is the age range etc.. that might help you make your mind up. I would say I have had some great holidays and fantastic chats with people MUCH older than myself.

Women seem to start younger than men in my experience (late 20's upwards). The youngest men appear to start in their early 40's of course there is the odd exception to this.

This age mix is true of most Just You holidays, regardless of whether in Europe or long-haul.

I've travelled with both JY and Solos and I would agree that the age profile is slightly older with JY - only by a few years though. I guess it depends on the sort of holiday that you take. I've not been to Jordan but I know it involves quite a bit of activity so I'm sure there'll be plenty of the "typical" 50-something traveller on a JY holiday there!

I too have been a regular of Solos (16 trips) and have now done two with JY. The trips with Solos were all ages long haul. From my experience the two companies are almost identical. Both offer amazing holidays with great people and super reps. My last holiday with JY to Australia had 29 people on it with the vast majority being in their 50's and 60's but with a sprinkling in their 30's and 40's and a couple older than that so I don't think you need to worry about being the youngest.

Whilst JY seems to have a reputation for being for an older set, Solos seems to have the reputation of being more of a dating club. Both reputations haven't been true in my experiences.

My take on this is to continue to use both companies and simply go with whichever holiday suits you best. I have already booked two holidays for next year - one with Solos and one with JY!

I also am a regular with Solo's, having done 7 long haul trips with an 8th booked for next year. Have now got my 1st trip with Just You booked though and will be going to Prague, Vienna & Budapest in April as a slightly cheaper hol to test the water with. The main reason i haven't used them before was a slight concern about the age being higher in general from what i have been told. I'm 39 and on all my previous hols there has always been a really good mixture of ages and didn't really want to be the youngest by a long way! Still, hopefully things will go well as there are several long haul destinations that Just You do that i really fancy.

Getting back to your original post Anneed - i went to Jordan a couple of years ago and it was lovely. Petra really is a must see and you won't be disappointed i can assure you!!

I've done 3 JY trips - I've not been the youngest on any of them and I'm 41!! go for it, I'm sure you won't regret it. Jordan is on my list to do, but then again so are so many other places. I haven't travelled with Solo's, but I think JY has a much, much better range of holidays.
