Hello All

I've been thinking about doing one of the JY holidays for some time, but I have a slight reservation about age, I am a young 38 and have an expectation that the age range would be perhaps 50+, not that there is anything wrong with being 50+ obvioously

So some advice would be appreciated and also a recommendation on whether I should go on a Discovery weekend first or just jump in at the deep end.

Any words of advise would be much appreciated.

Hi Sam

I've just jumped in and gone for Canada !

I am 45 and the feedback I got from others on this forum is I would be in the middle age wise with some older and some younger.

I guess a lot of it is 'luck of the draw' with regards to who is on any particular trip but everyone seems very positive about it.

Just jump in at the deep end Sam, I've been on a couple of holidays with Just You and the age range is varied, this I think makes for a good holiday. Geoff R

Hi Sam,

only been on one hol to France last year and age range from mid thirtees to eightees. At 41 i was the youngest male by about 15 years but was happy to talk to whoevers's friendly! I'd say majority are from mid fiftees to about eighty.

Also i imagine it depends on where you chose to go. Go for it and good luck! I've no regrets!

Regards,

Richard.

Hi Sam,

I've done two JY holidays so far and the majority of people have been in their 50's & 60's but there were plenty younger and older its quite a mixed bag.

From what I've seen on both trips I've done is that Ladies ages vary from late 20's to 70's while the men from mid 40's to 70's. The Ladies outnumber the men.

Hi Sam,

It is a risk you take, there is no guarantee what age people will be. I guess you need to consider if you did go on a holiday where everyone was over 50, would that ruin the trip for you. Before you book a trip, JY can give you an idea of the age range of people already booked as I have asked this previously.

I don't think a Discovery weekend will help in your decision. I would say just book a trip, maybe go for a short break somewhere to get a feel for it.

Hi Sam

The discovery weekend that I fancied going on was booked up so I decided to go on my first JY holiday which was the 5 day City Break to Turkey and had a great time. I'm really pleased I went ahead with it because I don't feel I would have got a good idea of what a singles holiday would be like by going on a Discovery Weekend

Also before I booked the holiday I asked the age range on the list.

Hi I did a trip tp SA 4yrs ago with a friend . we requested to go with the singels crowd but this was fully booked so was moved to a later date which resulted in mainly couples.. i was the youngest at 47.. the rest were mainly couples if if had not been for my friend the holiday would of been a waste of money .. check first the clinetal age etc .. then you will not be dissappointed..

Hi,

I'm going on my first JY holiday in September when I'll be 40. I wouldn't let the age range bother me as I've been on other holidays in the past with older groups, one lady was 90, and we had a brilliant time. I'd go for it and book it, you've nothing to lose!

Good luck.

Hi Sam

I jumped in at the deep end on a short 5 day coach holiday as a tester and it was the best thing I had ever done. That was about 4 years ago. I did this before doing a discovery weekend. What I can say even though it maybe your first Just You experience, There will also be very large number of travellers on what ever trip you chose also in the same situation as yourself. Of course the Discovery Weekends are also very good and a very worth while events to attend, Even if you just fancy a short break in your own Country. As for the age range. I have also experienced an age range from 31 to 78 in the same group. And it was fantastic. I think you will be fine Sam. Pick something you fancy and have a great time

As you describe yourself as a "young 38" then maybe age is an issue for you. Only you can decide how much being with a group of generally older people would impact on your enjoyment of a holiday.

Hi Sam,

The first thing I would say is don't be concerned about age. Age is not important - having a good time is. So far, I have been to Australia, New Zealand, China and Japan and next month I am going to Kenya. I am 35 and whilst I am often the youngest in the group (sometimes by quite a few years!) I don't let this bother me - the only thing that concerns me is whether I will be in good company and I have never yet been disappointed. Even Octogenarians know how to have a good time! So I would say just pick a destination you have always wanted to visit and go for it.

Hope this helps,

Claire
