Hi Anne,

This is my first time with Just You and thinking what a good idea this forum is. I'm also going to Chile in November too and have added on the Easter Island trip. I was also wondering about climate and clothes and also how much local currency to take.

Best wishes, Kath

Hello. I'm on the Chile with Easter Island Nov 25 trip too. I haven't started looking into clothing yet but I think that it will be tricky with the vast area. I have been recommended to have a rabies injection from my GP. Has anyone else?

with regard to money, I will take some US dollars plus some local currency. I tend to put as much as possible on my travel credit card.

Regards,

Sandra

That sounds like such an exciting trip, Anne! November is late spring in Chile, so the weather really depends on which regions you plan to visit. In Santiago and the central valleys, you’ll likely get mild to warm days, though evenings can still be cool, so a light jacket is useful. If you’re heading south toward Patagonia, you’ll definitely need layers, including waterproof gear, as the weather can change quickly. When I was planning a different trip , I came across some useful travel insights while looking into routes like this one—and I found that thinking in terms of layered packing helped me a lot. Are you planning to focus more on cities and vineyards, or will you be exploring the lakes and mountains too?

Hi Sandra, I'm going to have my injections (typhoid, tetanus and yellow fever) this afternoon. There was no advice from my GP practice to have rabies.

I was also wondering what people are planning to do re malaria as there have been cases of dengue fever on Easter Island. The advice I've read suggests that vaccinations/course of tablets are not needed but that tablets for plug-ins and a repellent spray would be a good idea.

Layered clothing seems to be a must. My daughter did an AI serach using details of the itinerary and it came up with a very impressive list which I could share if it would be helpful.

Best wishes, Kath

Hi Kath

Completely forgot I posted on here as I wasn't sure I was writing in the correct place.

Lovely to meet you & I am also doing Chile with the Easter island add on.

I have actually just bought my walking shoes and starting to get very excited. My daughter was in southern Chile at a similar time of year and she said a good waterproof/windproof jacket & a light down jacket were perfect but to pack layers as climate varies so much across the country.

There is an excellent very detailed review of the trip from 2017 which is worth a read for some tips.

Best Wishes Anne

Hi

This is really handy thank you & similar to what my daughter has recommended as she said layers is best way to be prepared.

Doing a tour of Chile so need to pack for both the Atacama & Patagonia. Planning on taking a down jacket & good waterproof to keep dry and warm.

Thanks for your advice.

Hi Sandra

Nice to meet you - my GP hasn't advised Rabies they just said avoid wild animals as then low risk.

I was also planning on taking some dollars & local currency and then have cards as back up.

Hi Anne,

I'm also excited and nervous - it's beginning to feel real now.

Thanks for the pointer to the 2017 trip. I will try to take a look but don't find the site easy to navigate.

With best wishes, Kath

Hi. Nice to meet you all. I wasn't advised about malaria tablets for the trip. Mind you last time I had them they didn't agree with me. I think that I'm up to date with regard to the other vaccinations.

Hi Sandra.

Regarding money I will take US$ and some local currency.   Lots of layers for Patagonia , and hopefully lighter clothes for the North.

Exciting today as we got the full itinerary.

See you at Terminal three.

Hello Vallevince,

Thank you for your tips.  Yes it's seems like layers for Patagonia and less for the North. This trip is North to South and then Easter Island.

Thank you

Anne

Hello;

I have just been reading about Chile. Absolutely no need fir malaria tablets.  We will need protection from mosquitos at times.  It is too dry in the desert and too cold in Patagonia for them.

Getting excited.

Anne

Has anyone checked the hold luggage size? I'm over on my width. 25cm isn't that big!!

Sandra

Think 25cm is the depth of the suitcase. The width is 58cm. My case is just 25cm deep, so better not overfill!

Best wishes, Kath
