Hiya it depends on which country you are going to.  Some injections will be covered by the NHS but a private travel clinic will recommend some for the country of travel. NHS:

Polio (often given as a combined diphtheria/tetanus/polio jab). Typhoid. Hepatitis A. Cholera.

Paid for:Hepatitis B. Japanese encephalitis. Meningitis. Rabies. Tick-borne encephalitis. Tuberculosis (TB). Yellow fever.

My understanding is that Africa, South America and most of Asia are high risk. USA is moderate risk. Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan are low risk. In the UK a bite from a bat could be fatal. Although this rarely happens. When abroad keep clear of stray cats and dogs.

Hi,

I'm going on the Experience South Africa tour in September and cannot get a straight answer out of anyone as to whether I 'need' to have the rabies vaccination. Everyone I speak to says 'it's up to you'.

My question goes out to peopl who have done this tour and whether they had the rabies vaccination.

I would be grateful for your feedback.

Thanks,

Marie
