Hi Lucinda

Thanks for your tips on the overnight bag and I think it was you who also posted tips on things to take like a torch for example. Again, thanks for that.

I'm going in June and getting very excited. I haven't heard from anyone on my trip yet but hopefully they will add to my post before we go.

Can you give me an idea about currency please. I have a travel card but always like to take cash for small purchases and tips. I have about $50 single US left over from abnother trip. What would you suggest?

Kind regards

Hi Lucinda,

Thank you for your message—I'm really pleased to hear you had a good trip!

Yes, thanks. It will be great to know about what to wear. I’ve read a few comments suggesting that quick-dry hiking clothing (nothing too bright) is recommended—do you think that’s essential?

Also, I usually get eaten alive by mosquitoes or any bugs around.  I’m planning to go very well-prepared, but I’m curious about what the mosquitoe situation is like.

Many thanks,

Jo

Hi Lucinda

I can see the questions on here but not the responses, so I'm sorry if I'm asking the same things again!

For the 4 days in the lodges, would it help if my rucksack is a proper waterproof one?

Looks like you've also given a tip about an overnight bag but I cant see that either?

Many thanks for sharing your knowledge !!

Hi

sorry may turn to be away - I've just come back form Namibia.

it was very humid and hot so comfortable light weight clothes are good - but most of us just wore normal t shirt and shirts and then a change for the evening to long trousers due to the bugs etc. there was the occasional downpour as well so a poncho was quite handy! Lost of bug spray and you can get citronella bracelets - I wear them on my ankles and wrists that keep the bugs at bay.

I wouldn't say waterproof bag is required- more about size as you won't see your main bag till you get back from the lodges. It goes on the covered boat and then into the lodges with you. Some took a small hand luggage suitcase and some took a back pack. Whatever suits you for 4ndaysbof clothes/ toiletries etc. there were pools to in some of the lodges.

there really isn't that much "hiking" - the national park was a mild walk and then the canopy walk was strenuous- good footwear with grip needed but trainers were enough- walking poles could be useful if you need them but here were rails.

currency wise I took Malaysian ringitt and a credit card. Some small places would be cash only but all the hotels took card. However a new tip from my recent travel is ensure you gave a backup for payment as my credit card was cloned and someone tried to use it in the UK whilst I was away ! The card was blocked ! Thankfully I had enough cash as i was halfway through but had I not a second card would have been a useful backup !

my friend who I met on one of these tours 10 years ago is going on the July date !

anything else I will try to reply !

just go and enjoy - its a beautiful country and fingers crossed for seeing orangutans in the wild! We saw 2 ! One on the boardwalk and 1 when we were out on the waterways. No pigmy elephants though - they had just moved on days before we arrived.

pacling cubes are a great tip to and we had many a laugh about these on this particular trip as it does make it easier to find things when hav8ngntomswap bags and re pack !
