I can't believe how quickly the week is flying by and can you believe we're in June already! As holiday season has well and truly begun and to get you thinking, we thought we'd focus the mind a little on Italy.

This fantastic country is one of our best-selling destinations, offering something for every traveller - whether you fancy a bit of culture at the opera, a relaxing resort stay or exploring the magnificent sights in captivating cities, Italy has it covered. What we'd like to know is, what do you think is a must-see sight for anyone planning a trip to Italy?

I went to Verona once for a day when at Lake Garda. The local tour guide who took us around the city didn't even mention or take us to the Roman Arena!, I hadn't even realised there was one until listed. So i'm imagining it as a JY hidden gem.  

Mount Etna is certainly the most imposing sight on the list, and one I hope to scale in September - assuming its not grumbling again. Tower of Pisa and the Colosseum are Italy's most famous landmarks. I haven't been to Rome yet, but I found the bell tower a little underwhelming..... and the Sistine Chapel is in the Vatican. As a Catholic I probably should have voted for this, but I didn't  😛, instead to me the most impressive sight was one I was not prepared for and that was the Duomo in Florence. 

Emerging from a side street, and there it was towering above me like a sleeping giant. In the city that combines the art, music, culture, religion, education and rich flavours of Tuscany and the rest of Italy. This landmark you have to see, and one I phone almost impossible to get a perfect photo and getting as much in as possible. So close and you don't see its glory and further away many heads get in the way trying to do the same, and I think post cards revert to a birds eye view. So you have to go plan a trip and see it for yourself, because no second hand description or amateur photo does it justice.

When I went to Italy for the first time I wanted to see the Roman Colosseum, because isn't this what most people have heard of from very young school children to really old people like me!

However, on my second visit to Italy my favourite city became Florence with it's Duomo.

We just happened to be in Siena at the time of the Palio, we saw and heard the wonderful procession although we didn't actually see the race. The atmosphere was terrific. So how about a tour with ringside seats in the square to see the Palio?

I am now looking forward to seeing the Trulli houses on the Discover Apulia tour on the 18th June.

To complete your list I still need to visit Lake Como, Verona and Pisa.

Agree there are lots of other places you could have included in the options. The Scrovegni Chapel with Giotto frescos and the Basilica of St Anthony - both in Padua (where JY doesn't seem to go). Or Agrigento or Monreale Cathedral - both in Sicily. Or the Cinque Terre, or one of the hill towns, or Pompeii, etc - there are just so many options in Italy.

For me it has to be Herculaneum, closely followed by the Pantheon in Rome and, as a wild card, Monte Solaro in Capri (from the top, taking in the incredible views from a deck chair with a granita siciliana in hand!)

 I chose Pisa although I have been to the first 5 on the list.

The Arena in Verona was Aida in glorious technicolour and sound in 2011. Pisa, Florence and Siena was from the Flavours of Tuscany in 2015 and Lake Como was with Leger last year.

Rome is next as it is the only one left for the Hard Rock Cafe, I have Florence and Venice .

So the Leaning Tower has to have my vote although I have been to many more places in Italy that I LOVE

I selected Mt Etna as it's the only site mentioned in the vote that I've seen. I'm saving Italy and the rest of Europe to visit once I've completed the rest of the world, so its good to see other's thoughts.
