Hi,

For anyone going to Burma, may I suggest the excellent book "Burma's Spring" by Rosalind Russell (recently out this year) and the DVD "The Lady" which came out in 2011 - make sure you also view the extra features. Both of these have given me a real insight into Burma where I am booked to go next year.

Cheers,

Hils

Hello Hils,

I've just booked to go to Burma but not until November. I've taken your advice and have just ordered the DVD you recommend. Like you, other people give it very good reviews. I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks.

I can certainly recommend the book which I have on Kindle.  It set the scene for me and it was eye-opening to understand how far the country has come in such a short time and to see some of the places mentioned.  The one thing that really resonated with me on our trip was to see a calendar with Aung San Suu Kyi's face on it and to realise that printing it never mind displaying a short time ago would have landed you in prison or worse

Hi Julie,

I'm on the 14/11/16 date.  I see there are 3 November dates now.  When I booked there was only one.  What date are you on?  You'll be on a different tour in all likelihood.

Regarding the DVD, I've still to watch the extra features but I will, probably nearer the time I travel.  The film itself was thoroughly informative and indeed enjoyable...the story that continues to unfold in our news feeds now.
