Hello, Just You Community

I am 23 and looking at travelling solo (and outside of Europe) for the first time. I like the look of the Eastern Canada trip (8th Sept) but am worried I will feel very lonely if I am the only one in my age range going. I am usually quite introverted so concerned I will not fit in. I know the motto is 'age is just a number', but expect you have to be confident than I am.

Would you let me know what the current age range is looking like, and whether Just You holidays would be right for someone my age?

Thank you

Hi Fiona,

Great to have you on the forum! There are 6 people on the trip so far, and their ages range from mid 60s to mid 70s. However, there are 42 spaces available in total, so there is likely to be people of a whole range of ages booked on.

We tend to have customers from all sorts of ages, from 20s to 80s and everything in between! I myself am in my 20s and will be doing a Just You trip this summer - can't wait!

Many thanks,

Vickie

Hi Fiona

I have been travelling with JY and another solos company since 2010. I have done 12 different trips both long haul and in Europe and I have to say that on only two or three trips have there been any travellers under the age of forty. On the whole people are friendly and welcoming but you may wish to look at other solo holiday companies who operate age group holidays.

Hope this helps

Lesley

Hi Lesley, Hi Vickie

Thank you for your replies, they are very helpful. I think as this is my first solo holiday I will have to follow Lesley's advice and try to find something within my age group, but will keep JY in mind for future trips when I am more confident in bouncing around the world on my own!

Thanks again,

Fiona

Hi Fiona

I have done 3 trips so far and have another two booked. I was 36 when I did my first trip, there was one other girl the same age as me on that trip but i have been the youngest on the others. I was abit wary of the age gap initially but it really has never been a problem- I have met and stayed in touch with some great people of all ages.

I am always a nervous wreck at first on these trips and being forward when first meeting people is not some thing I am very good at - but if you do long haul and have access to the lounge at the airport, if takes alot of that initially worry away. I am a nightmare about just walking into the lounge but once there, everything relaxes, other people on the trip will look out for you and before you know it your chatting away and you haven't even left the UK yet! Alot of people said to me, age is just a number but what I also focused on was everyone had picked to do the same trip, so whatever age, you already have some thing in common.

I have looked at other companies but seem to come back to JY. I have been to some amazing places with like minded people and have always had a great time.

Sometimes you just need to take the plunge and give it a go.

I tend to agree with comments in Paula’s posting..

I started using JY in 2006 and have seen the world with them in a safe secure way.

For me what draws me to a tour is what I am going to see, NOT who I am going to meet. It’s your memories and photos etc that will live on.

Age is JUST a number I have been out walked by people MUCH older than me. Yes, I have met some fantastic people and buddied up on other tours, some I still email and chat to. But I am not going on tours to meet a new BFF I just go with a open mind if I met someone who I can walk alongside then that’s good but not the be all and end all for me it’s the tour seeing and doing I want to experience.

Although travelling you are part of a group for me I like time alone, so I like sitting on a coach on my own, I don’t have to have someone sitting next to me, I am happy to spend a hour or so alone in my room, I pick full on tours I have done many USA tours, but I like ME time as well.

I always take a book but only once have I read it.

By all means look around at other tour companies, in this day and age where every penny counts we all look from time to time, but way up what’s on offer, what do you want to see/do then base your booking on that and not a age issue.

Happy traveling go and explore this world of ours!

Hi Fiona

I too agree with Paula and Cindy's comments. When I did my first Just You trip in 2009 to Jordan, we had a couple of people who were in their early 20s. After all, age is just a number and if you get on well with people of all ages, then there is nothing to stop you travelling with Just You. But on the other hand if you feel you want to travel with people who are around your age, then do look at other companies to see what is on offer. Hopefully you will find something to your liking. Good luck and happy travels.

Kind regards

Jaya
