Hi Tim/Julia,

I am looking at booking Costa de la Luz in September, being my first holiday this year since having my hip operation. However, on phoning JY yesterday and enquiring about flights direct to Faro from either Glasgow or Edinburgh, they quoted me £179 extra from Glasgow and £149 from Edinburgh with Jet2. com. Why the difference in cost? On checking with Jet2com's website and putting in the relevant flights, there was a 90p difference, and that in favour of Glasgow!!

I would be grateful if you could clarify why there is a £30 difference. At those costs it would be cheaper for me to fly down to Gatwick, using my Avios points, and staying in the Premier Inn at Gatwick! Also a 0640 flight time from Glasgow is horrendous - as the other regional flights are later, does that mean I would have to wait for hours at Faro Airport for the other flights to come in?

Cheers,

Hils

Hi Hils,

Lets start with the regional flights question, these are priced when we have our initial conversations with the airlines, however airlines do change their prices depending on how well (or not) a flight route is selling.

With regards to the flight departing at 06:40 there are a number of regional flights that are arriving at a similar time to this flight so you wouldn't need to hang around the airport too long (you may have to wait for the group that arrive 10 minutes after the Glasgow flight).

Kindest regards,

Julia

Hi Hils,

I have a flight from Glasgow to Gatwick coming up in September. Edinburgh is not really an option for me. JY wanted £149 return. I went online, checked BA, their online price was £108, I got the same flights with plenty of time to spare, using Avios for £58 return. My insurance covers missed departure if the worst happens.

Hi Sylvia,

I too fly from Glasgow, and try and use my Avios points as much as possible to fly down to London. Unfortunately for this holiday (which I haven't booked!) it was a direct flight from Glasgow or Edinburgh to Faro. I have instead booked Calabria for September and fly down to Gatwick the night before.

Cheers,

Hils

You will not regret booking Calabria - I went there a couple of years ago and absolutely loved it - the hotel really is something very special.
