Payment should be in US dollars and you should find it easy to withdraw some from ATMs if you don't want to carry lots of cash. As always, remember to let your bank know your plans.

Just returned from Route 66 - fabulous trip but would recommend you book optional excursions before you go. I had difficulty getting money from ATM's out there and saves you carrying extra cash. You can pay the Tour Manager in either sterling or dollars.
