Good afternoon:

I have not yet travelled with JY and would appreciate anyone's contributions to my wonderment.

I am a single female in my mid 50's and would like to start traveling with like minded people. Not sure to start booking a shorter trip or long haul. Anyone's initial experiences would be helpful and the admin staff views too.

Looking forward to some responses

Thank you  ๐Ÿ˜‰

Hi Ety,

After doing 13 JY tours, mainly long haul, my advice is simple - study the brochure (or website if you don't have one) and do your research.  Decide when you want to go and look at what's available; draw up a short list and study what's involved in each tour.  Then just go for it!  For my first tour I did Treasures of Andalucia as I didn't know what to expect and decided on a straightforward week in Spain as I reckoned I didn't have much to lose if it didn't work out.  I had a great week and the following year I booked two tours - west coast USA and South Africa/Zambia (which remains my all time favourite tour).  So depending on your diary and budget, just decide which tour appeals to you the most and go for it!!

All the best,

Bob

I am also new to JY though I have been on a singles walking holiday some time ago. My experience of that was good and travelling by myself but with a group of like minded people was in lots of ways more relaxing. I've just booked on the Pompeii trip in March. I've always wanted to see it and am really looking forward to going.

Hi, when I booked my first trip with Just You last year I felt nervous and apprehensive as I had never done a trip like this before. I needn't have worried as it was a wonderful holiday and I met some lovely people. I am 58 and the ages in the group ranged from mid forties to late seventies and everyone had a great time. I'm sure you will enjoyed it just choose somewhere that Is perfect for you. I'm going again this year and looking forward to another great holiday.

Hello Ety,

My first trip with JY was in 2010, quess I was 53. Medium haul to Jordan, Sinai and Cairo ticking off Petra and the Sphinx with Giza on my To Do list. 3 weeks of an amazing mind blowing experience with Amman, Jerash, Madaba, Mount Nebo then Aqaba and Wadi Rum, ferry to Nuweiba, St Catherine and the burning bush, across to Suez Canal then upto Cairo. Who knew that Giza is on one side of the Nile with Cairo on the other. The main Pyramids with the Step and Bent Pyramids were amazing. To stand by the Sphinx, turn arond and see the local KFC ๐Ÿ˜› I have been to both Memphis, Egypt and Tennessee. Seen Tuts mask in the Egyptian Museum 3 months before the Arab Uprising when the Museum was ransacked.

My first camel ride at Petra, the Siq was amazing- look out for the elephant. Slept in a cave which was different. Learnt all about 1917 and Lawrence of Arabia and his book the Seven Pillars of Wisdom for Wadi Rum.

Since then, I have seen Italy x 2, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France and Belgium Battlefields and Christmas Markets, America, Scotland, Leicester, Yorkshire Dales and Jordan. I have booked Breathtaking New Zealand for October which will be the first time in Australasia. For me as a single holidaymaker, then JY have ticked all my boxes

Hi Eli,  welcome to JY Community.  For my first JY trip in 2007 I went to Northern Canada to look for polar bears etc.  It was fabulous.  I have been on long and short trips and the only thing that remains constant is the friendship and togetherness of the groups.  Hotels and countries change but the commararderie remains.  We are strangers at the departure airport but by the evening we are a group of friends.  There is also space should you want some time alone.

Just chose where you want to go and book it. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.

Hi Ety

It may seem hard to book the first trip but once you have experienced it you will wonder why you worried about it. You will see some wonderful sights and meet some lovely people. As Bob said find the holiday that really interests you and go for it and you won't regret it.

Good luck

Alan
