Hi,

I'm going on the Vietnam trip on 18th Feb and have got all Vietnamese Dong...but I'm wondering if I should get USD, or exchange half the dong for USD.

Can anyone offer any advice please?

Thanks

Kate

Hi Kate

I am also going on the Vietnam trip on 18th Feb, I live in Spain so am unable to get Dong I will exchange some with you, I was intending taking small denomination USD.

I have no idea how much money to take how much have you exchanged.

Look forward to meeting you next week

Hi

we did this tour last November I would advise taking just a small amount of Dong as the exchange is something like 30,000 to the pound and after a couple of days of this you'll be glad to see the back of your Dong, between 30 and 50£ worth is ample, take mainly dollars which is widely accepted though sometimes you may get dong back in your change, we found as quickly as we were getting rid of it it was building up again, Vietnam was relatively cheap and £300 ought to be ample to see you through

really enjoyed Vietnam I am sure you will also

Hi Kath,

I wasn't sure how much to exchange, but after reading the info from JY, decided to take more than I'll probably need, so I've changed £1000, which has given me just over £28m dong!! I'm going to change some of it tonight for USD though.

What time are you arriving the night before? I'll be there about 6.30pm, thinking of going with Hils suggestion on the other thread and going to Cafe Rouge for dinner :)

Hi Dave,

Thanks for your advice on the currency 🙂 I'll be exchanging it later today!

Know what you mean about the Dong, I've got a wad of it and wasn't relishing the thought of having to carry it around with me!!

I did the trip to Vietnam and Cambodia with JY a couple of years ago. We found that only small amounts of Dong are needed and that US $ are accepted in most places. And as a previous comment, you usually get Dong in your change so there is only need for a small amount at the beginning of your trip and, yes you will be trying to get rid of it by the end as there are so many notes!!!

However I'm sure your tour manager will help you make the best of a wonderful trip.
