Tragedies are happening around the world all the time but I was 99% certain I was going to Nepal in 2016. Regrettably now I'm not so sure. Regrettable for me, selfish I know, but regrettable the impact on tourism and the economic consequences for its people.

I'm so sorry for the poor Nepal people. The loss of life. The impact on people's lives. The loss of cultural sites.

I will still go to Nepal... sooner rather than later I hope.

My thoughts exactly. Horrific. It is the most wonderful country - of all the 48 countries that I have been lucky enough to visit, my Everest Trail trek in April 2003 is top of the list.

The scenery is the most stunning in the world, the people and food wonderful.

I do hope this has not put anyone off going to Nepal - in the future obviously - I would thoroughly recommend it.

I still remember Hurricane Ike sweeping past New Orleans to devastate Galveston in 2008, 3 years after Katrina where people were just getting back on their feet. A horrible end to a holiday. My daughters were frantic with worry knowing I was in the path of a 600 mile wide hurricane, I was listening to a Blues band up on Bourbon Street. I can understand the worry of no news for the families of the 90 Britons still unaccounted for whilst they were having the holiday of a lifetime.

Julia, have the powers that be decided if these tours are going to run yet? Perhaps it is too early to tell. Like Angie, I was thinking about going to Nepal next year with TS, but I suppose I will have to wait and see how things are going there. If the tours run, I would still seriously consider going there. The people of that devastated country will need our help, support and a tourism boost in the next few years more than ever. Selfishly I will need to make a decision one way or the other by this autumn and hopefully things will be clearer by then.

I echo your thoughts and sentiments. These tragedies often happen in countries that are least able to cope with such devastation. I hope that they get the international aid they need to rebuild their lives.

Nepal is a country I've considered visiting as well.

Many of you have asked and I can confirm that we do not have any travellers in Nepal, however our thoughts are with those who have been affected by this tragedy.
