I am a new widow. I always wanted to see Australia but the 20-24 hour flying time put my husband off considering. He wanted me to fulfil my wish while I am reasonably healthy. My children agree and insist that I should go early next year. I am a bit apprehensive about booking a tour for 11th March 2015. I don't know anyone who would be free to travel with me and also has the means to pay for the holiday. Although I have read the review posts on this forum about Amazing Australia, but it is about taking the plunge, that I find nerve racking.

Just wonder if anybody has already booked for this tour and who was also nervous prior to that.

Hi Dyuti,

Sorry to hear about your recent loss.

I have already done the Amazing Australia trip a couple of years ago now. I did it with a Singapore stop over and New Zealand add on afterwards. I thought it best to get down under ticked off and done in one swoop as the distance is considerable.

Now Qantas fly via Dubia instead of Singapore why don't you add it as an extra as it cuts the long flying time down considerably. I have been to Dubia years ago but it is more of an attraction place now so there will be lots to do. Agiain JY will have a representative in Dubia to meet you and excursions for you on your stop over. After your stay continue onwards to Australia. Your stop over break again will make the flying that distance not to bad.

If you can afford it I would recommend upgrading to Business class through JY. I did it both ways, you then have a seat that transforms into a bed. My trip home from Christchurch, NZ via Sydney and Singapore was done totally in Business class. Did not find coming back so bad, except for our delay in Singapore due to technical issue with aircraft.

Hope you will consider it, as states - Amazing Australia. Trip of a lifetime.

Best wishes

Eric

Thank you Eric for your views and suggestions. I didn't know I could do the stopover both ways, but that would mean considerable amount of expense. However, saying that, Singapore and Bangkok seem inviting. I have a relative in Dubai, so I just need to spend the airfare when I feel like visiting them.

I think I would like to go to NZ some other time.

Someone has mentioned in this thread about the issue of reduced baggage allowance for the internal flight, if you have an upgrade for the main parts of the journey. Needs thinking about carefully.

Hi Dyuti

Sorry to hear of your loss, I was in a similar situation to yourself. I also had similar concerns about the flight and going on my first single holiday but decided to bite the bullet and book my first just you holiday to Australia. It was touch and go whether I was going to go to the airport but I did and had a truly amazing holiday. The flight wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. There were plenty of films to watch and they just kept feeding us. I also went in March and the flight wasn't full so we could stretch out (I didn't stop over). I met some lovely people and can't recommend it enough

I did the New Zealand trip in February 2012. We had a stop over in Hong Kong on the way out. The return was Christchurch to UK via Auckland. I travelled out in premium and home in business. The shorter-ten and twelve hours- flights were ok in premium. Comfortable seats, more legroom very reasonable food. The return flight from Christchurch to Auckland was economy only, but as JY had told me, the business luggage allowance applied to the whole journey. We did have a three hour lay over in Hong Kong on the return. That gave me plenty of time to shower and freshen up in the busness lounge before the next leg. One negative though, I took advatage of the luggage allowance and took two smaller cases each well below the 23kg limit. Neither the tour manager or our driver-guide were happy with that.

Thank you Joy and Sarah for your comments. After reading the posts here, I feel less nervous now.
