I did this fantastic trip in February this year. You cannot pre-order rupees in the UK and you cannot bring them back either. We all exchanged our money in the first hotel in Delhi. Difficult to say how much you will need. Warning, wine is extremely expensive - £35 a bottle! Silk scarves etc. very cheap. So it's really drinks and souvenirs and a few lunches.
