Hi all, I'm new to this, I'm thinking of jumping in at the deep end and booking this trip, but I'm a bit unsure if it's right for me ! Another thought was one of the short breaks to France, or a river cruise.
My main worry is my walking ability. I am 56 with a mild walking problem. I can do moderate walking with occasional rest stops, but can't do hill climbing, hiking or tackle huge numbers of steps. Can anyone advise me on this ? how do I make sure the trip I choose is manageable ? I would hate to inconvenience others.
Thanks
Hi Jacki. I have a problem with an arthritic spine so my walking is more impaired than it was. I went on the Cilento trip last year(my first with Just You). Lovely spot and the hotel is great. As I remember the ground floor of the hotel has very few steps, just a couple of steps to get into the hotel, and then just a few steps on the ground floor. I can only speak for the second floor but again there were just odd steps up there.
Once out of the hotel down by the harbour you would be fine. The path up to the actual village is on a slope but not difficult to negotiate. There is a local bus to Castellabate (the hill village) more slopes up there but nothing too strenous, and also a bus to Santa Maria which is a small town along the coast, more choice of shops. You can walk back along the beach which is wonderful and take your time doing it.
As for the trips. I believe Just You no longer do the boat trip or the trip to the Monastery and Caves (I wouldnt have recommended that anyway as there are some steep slopes, and steps. Paestum is flat although some of the paths are a little rough. Amalfi and Ravello are not too difficult because you would be on the bus a lot.
I have found that everyone keeps together and waits for the slower walkers and its good that Just You do give an idea on their excursions on the amount of walking to be done.
Cilento is a very choice spot and the hotel is really excellent. Amazing views out to sea, and along the coast, great food and the hotel staff are lovely.
Whatever you decide to do. Enjoy! Hope I have been of some help.
