I just wanted to say hello to everyone, I am new to this and was wondering if anyone will be or already has booked onto the up and coming discovery weekends?? I have never been abroad and unfortunately i'm not brave enough yet to book a holiday overseas, although at 41 its time too face a few demons, but I thought i'd start locally to begin with. I'd love to hear from anyone who has booked on one of these holidays or can give me some advice...

Kind Regards

Lisa

Hi Lisa

Now you have been on a discovery weekend. I am sure you have been re assured by the Just You staff. I know travelling alone for the first time can be a little daunting. But I can assure you once you return. You will be saying to yourself, why you haven't done it sooner.

One thing to remember is. That whatever holiday you choose. There will be several people on the trip. In the same boat as yourself, Where they have never travelled alone, Or hadn't done for a very long time. My tip if you do not want to venture to far. Is perhaps try a short coach trip. "Just You" do several different types of trips of about 4 or 5 days. Or even longer if you feel ready for it. The UK has lovely places to visit, But Europe has also so much to offer and experience. And it is good to try out new cultures, foods etc.

I have been on 9 Just You holidays. 8 via coach, And have just returned from My first flying holiday. So if I can do it, So can you.

All the best Lisa and Good luck.

p.s Walking In The Ahr Valley, or the Austrian Lakes are 2 very good trips to start with.

Regards Andy

Hi Lisa,

Well what can I say? Don't be nervous - go and enjoy yourself!! I have been on some of the coach trips with Just You but also the holidays by air too. Christmas in particular is great fun. If you are worried - don't be. There is a wonderful world of adventure out there so go and enjoy it. Just You will make sure you are safe and well looked after. All you have to do is have a good time - easy. You will meet some great people and make some really good friends. What have you got to lose? Go for it and let me know how you get on.

Be happy, best wishes.

Lesley.

PS Looks like the Dolomites for me this Christmas!

Hi to everyone - another 'potential newbie' here just signing in! This is my first peep into the idea of going on holiday alone - and it's definitely a bit scarey. But I've seen lots of really strong 'go for it' messages which have all seemed really positive - so that's very encouraging!

I'm thinking I might 'dip a toe in' by going on a discovery weekend - the Hampshire one - in August. I wondered if anyone else was thinking about doing that too? Yikes - I feel like now I've typed this in, I must definitely be moving towards the fact that I'm going to do this. Gulp. Feeling nervous already!! Joan 🙂

I'm thinking about booking a weekend break in Hampshire in August. I've never done anything like this before, and am absolutely petrified.

I thought I might pluck up the courage to do something outside of my comfort zone. Is anyone else going?

Hi everyone! I'm 28 years old and very new to Just You. I love to travel but am really nervous about going on holiday by myself, so Lisa I know how you feel. I am looking to book the discovery weekend in Nottingham in August before my first big holiday...just to see how things go. I have to say I am pleased to see that I'm not the only one who feels a bit nervous about it, but I'm looking forward to it too. I'm sure it will be fun!

Hi Karrie, Jemma and Joan,

I see you are all nervous about taking the plunge with a first Just You holiday. Of course you are - I was. Have you thought that if you are all thinking about a Discovery weekend in the same place, you will not be strangers by the time you get there because you will look for each other and meet up. Easy. My first holiday was at Christmas 2007 to Austria and I rationalised that if I did not like the other people in my group then it was just 1 week out of my life and there would be enough things to do to make it enjoyable. As it happpens this was not the case - and Yes I am going to the Dolomites this Christmas with a friend I made on that first holiday!! We have gone away at every Christmas since as well as other holidays. Be brave and ENJOY. You will not regret it, believe me. Don't forget to let me know how you all get on.

Be happy, best wishes,

Lesley

Is there anyone going on one of the discovery weekends in Bournemouth. I am so nervous about going on holiday on my own. I have travelled on my own but only to meet my son or daughter abroad so wasn't on my own for the holiday. I am 55 (help!!) and have been on my own for the past 3 years. I am shy, quiet and terrified when I don't know people but I need to get a life!!!

Do you know which discovery weekend you would like to go on? I have decided to book the one in Nottingham on 13th August. As my previous post says I am very nervous but after all the encouraging words I have read I have decided to go for it. I wish you the best of luck wherever you decide to go!

Hi Ellie.

That's what I am worried about or also that as we are all newbies it will be more strained than the other holidays. Everyone does seem to have a lovely time though. Don't know where you are but what about one of the Bournemouth weekends. I like the look of those and am trying to pluck up the courage to go.

Hi,

I'm new to just you, and wondered if anyone can tell me please, what these just you holidays are like? Like do you do things in groups if you choose too? The discovery weekends, look quite good, and am quite interested in. This is my first single holiday, and I'm quite nervous about going on a single holiday. And what age group do you find on the holidays?

The messages on here seem positive.

Hi Everyone

Just to let you all know that if you are considering booking a discovery weekend, do it asap. I have just called to book the weekend in Nottingham on 13/08/10 and was told that there are no female rooms left, so no discovery weekend for me! I'm really disappointed as I was so looking forward to it. I would have booked sooner, however I only found out about Just You a couple of weeks ago!...It seems that I may have to wait until next year to take my first holiday by myself.
