Not long now - I am really looking forward to this trip and particularly to some sunshine after the weather this week!

I received our final itinerary this morning and Day 3 is a full day at leisure to explore or join an optional excursion. The alternatives were the Winelands tour, a heicopter ride over Cape Town or Robben Island. There is also an Evening Cruise, but I guess that we can probably fit this in as well?

I have decided to opt for the trip to Robben Island. We were advised to book tickets in advance as space is limited, and in case anyone else has the same idea I have just booked on-line, on the 11am boat on Saturday 14th (our 3rd day). It would be good to have some company if anyone else fancies this trip.

I am really looking forward to meeting my fellow travellers, and I'm sure we'll have a great time.

See you at Heathrow on 12th March!

Hi Pauline

I've not yet received my final itinerary and so was hanging back from booking Robben Island on the 3rd day however after seeing your message I've gone ahead and booked for 11am on Saturday 14 March as well.

Looking forward to meeting everyone at Heathrow

Hi Verona, Pauline, AlanJ & Tom

Just been scrolling back on Message Board and found your exchange of messages, also those earlier from AlanJ & Tom. Just to let you know I will be joining you all at Heathrow on the 12th, will be coming down from Lincoln and look forward to meeting you for what I hope will be a great holiday. Was originally booked on the earlier Winelands tour until it was cancelled. For some reason not received full itinery yet so have not opportunity to book excursions yet. Will ring J.U. in the morning. I guess their mailing dept. missed the weekly Stage (Mail) Coach to Lincoln !

Bye for now - HowardM

Hello all, itinerary still not arrived in Scotland yet, I have been waiting eagerly for the postman these last few mornings. Hope there is no shortage of places on the wine tour. See you soon, Tom.

Hi All!

Sorry if I've caused any confusion - I may have got my itinerary early as I've been in correspondence with JY about the itinerary as I transferred from another holiday that was cancelled. Hopefully we should all have itinerary and our tickets very soon. I was advised that I only needed malaria tablets once we passed Durban - the Swaziland / Kruger region so I've got malarone for that part. I only have to start two days before we arrive in that part, so I'll have to work that out nearer the time!

Three weeks today we'll be in Cape Town - can't wait!

Tom's got the right idea there are plenty of ATM's in the towns and cities - just be sure to get enough cash to cover days in the bush. I did this trip last year and took travellers cheques which were quite difficult to cash. I'm sure you'll have a great time - our group thoroughly enjoyed it.

Hi Tom/Alan

I went on this trip in 2007,and it was fantastic. Your idea of taking Rand is a good one. But the use of cards can be difficult as they were not widely accepted. I suggest you just take them for backup. Of cause the sittuation may of changed in two years.

Thanks for the advice on money to South Africa. Is it the same currency in Swaziland ?

I'm struggling to remember what currency we used in Swaziland. I've got a vague recollection that they accepted Rand but couldn't swear to it. We were there such a short space of time there wasn't much opportunity to spend. Worth taking some sweets for the local kids though - they have so little and are so pleased with anything.

Just seen a couple of posts on this thread from folk who have been on this holiday before. I'm looking for opinion of the Optional Game Drive excursions in Krugar Park. We have two options - morning drive approx 4 hrs, and a full day drive approx 8/9 hrs. Question is which is the best one to do, or, are they different enough in their content to be worth doing both ? Realise there is an element of luck in what we are likely to see on these drives. Another question arises this time re electric plugs adaptors, thinking in terms of phone, camera & shaver chargers. I understand European & USA adaptors not suitable, what about a Far East/Australia adaptor, or do we have to buy yet another adaptor for SAF ? Regards HowardM

Hi folks. I did all the optional game trips and was glad I did because we were pretty unlucky in terms of sightings. Our full day drive was somewhat ruined by pouring rain and thunder and lightning so final early morning trip was best but you can be lucky or unlucky. The adapter you need is rather like a larger version of an old fashioned English 3 round pin plug - they sell them at Heathrow (I never tracked 1 down locally). Don't buy one of the supposed 'world wide' or universal ones as they don't fit.

Thanks for your input Linda, very helpful and much appreciated by me and I'm sure rest of folk on this thread. Hopefully we will get better weather than you experienced on game drives.
