Thanks Bob

Have a lovely holiday in Crete.

Hi Di,

Thank you so much for your most helpful comments - you have confirmed what I have been thinking and what some others have told me - that travelling by coach offers more opportunities for viewing the scenery and wildlife and for taking photos.  I know the Rocky Mountaineer would be a great experience but I think I would prefer to go by road if possible.  Thanks Julia also for your encouraging reply (as always!).  So I'll have to wait and see - I could always go with Travelsphere, as they have a fantastic range of Rockies tours but obviously I'd prefer to travel with JY.

Hope you have an amazing time in China and Tibet if I'm not talking to you in the meantime,

Bob

Hi Bob

I have been to the Canadian Rockies 3 times, so I hope you don't mind me making a few comments.

2006 a 16 day Rockies tour with Cosmos;2007 The Rockies and Alaska cruise which ended up as an amalgamation Of JY, TS and Page and Moye travellers (our poor TM had her work cut out, not only was she sorting out 3 groups with different needs she also had a wheelchair bound traveller, who's wife was struggling to push him around).

2008 I did the across Canada tour with TS. We flew from the East coast to Calgary where we picked up our coach to take us across the Rockies.

OK, each time I have travelled by coach. I would thoroughly recommend a coach tour.  On each tour the

coach drivers and TMs were brilliant. Whenever it was safe to do so, the drivers stopped for photo opportunities be it for wildlife or scenery. On the last tour we did we even went off route a few times to add a little extra to the tour, one of the extras being a waterfall. A coach may not be as glam. as the Rocky Mountaineer but....

The Rockies are awesome.

Hope JY offer the Rockies Tour that you wish for in 2019.

Best wishes

Di

Hi Bob,

I have forwarded your comments on to our team of holiday creators. Lets see what they come back with in the future!

Kindest regards,

Julia

Hi Julia/Mildred,

A question for your holiday creators to mull over - I know that the Canada/Rocky Mountaineer is proving popular, just as the previous incarnations of this tour have also done.  I also know that you rest and refresh many of your tours every few years.  I'm just wondering would JY consider revamping the Canada and the Rockies in 2019, to resemble the tour that you used to run c.2010-12 - going to Banff, Jasper etc and then on to Vancouver and Victoria by coach, rather than on the Rocky Mountaineer?  I know the train is highly rated by many but the previous itinerary allowed for a stay on Victoria with a whale watching excursion etc.  The advantage of going by coach is that stops can be made for photos etc. and alternative routes can be taken if there are any problems.  This itinerary would also be a lot cheaper than the current one!  I have pencilled in Canada for 2019 but if it was substantially cheaper, I'd be able to do another long haul in the autumn that year...I am also thinking of Alaska so will be looking very closely at the new itinerary when it is launched!

All the best,

Bob
