I have flown Malaysian Airlines and like Bob, was very happy with the service received. I can't understand why people feel so strongly about flying with certain Airlines just because of some unfortunate incident. Nothing is guaranteed in life and if one is so scared, then the best thing is to stay at home and never go out. My personal view is if your time is up, then no matter what you do, there is no way to escape. If it is not your time to go up to the heavens yet, then you will survive no matter how tragic the incident is. Like Bob, I take reviews with a pinch of salt. Of course, some Airlines are better than others - I personally do not like flying with British Airways as I have experienced poor service, but will still fly if it is the only Airline on offer for a tour/holiday I wish to do. Life is too short to worry/fret about little things.

Hi Sarah, I always take reviews with a pinch of salt as people love to find fault! Having said that, I'm not a fan of Iberian and I found the flight back from Namibia with South African Airways to be very uncomfortable. I had no problems at all with Malaysian. I don't view the flight as part of the holiday - rather a means to an end of getting where I want to go! The eight hour stopover in KL wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be - a few of us checked into a lounge for three hours, had a leisurely meal and chatted at the gate and the time went surprisingly quickly! JY used to offer a city tour of KL but stopped it just before our tour, as the time was too rushed and seemingly the traffic in KL is unbelievable! The last thing you want at the end of a long tour is a stressful rush back to the airport to catch your flight. I take your point about having an overnight stop in KL but I suppose this would add quite a bit to the cost of the tour. I still wouldn't let any of this put you off doing this tour if you want to do it, as it really is fantastic.

Best wishes,

Bob

The reviews on skytrax don't quite match your experience Bob. Although I take the point on safety, I would be reluctant to fly Malaysian for such a long flight, based on levcomfort and service levels.
Hi I did this tour in 2013 and think Malaysian Airlines are wonderful, one of the best airlines I've ever flown with. The food and service were excellent and the planes very comfortable. AbbaDave, Julia and Monty are right - those two tragic accidents were exactly that - one of the planes was shot down over Ukraine so that certainly wasn't a technical fault and no one knows what happened to the other flight and there's nothing to suggest it was a technical fault either. It was just a terrible coincidence that both incidents were Malaysian Airlines flights. I would not hesitate to travel with them again and I think it would be a terrible shame to miss out on this fantastic holiday because of a misplaced fear over their safety.

Best wishes,

Bob

Hi Alison,

It is extremely unfortunate that it happened to Malaysian airlines twice, and it's a very rare occurrence when you consider how many flights there are around the world daily!

With regards to booking your own flights, you can do - however, you will not be able to get a discount from Just You. This is down to the fact we sell our holidays as a package and we cannot separate these components of the tour.

If you need help with booking flights to meet with the itinerary of the tour or if you need any other information, you can call one of our friendly holiday specialists and they will be happy to help.

Kindest Regards,

Monty

although you state these tragic events can happen to anyone, they happened to Malaysian airlines twice, is it possible to book this tour with your own flights
Hi

we are going to Vietnam on Nov 5th flying with Malaysia airlines and have no problems with flying with them whatsoever and Julia is right these tragic events can happen with any airline in the world as we have seen only very recently

Dave

This tour is high on my wish list, but I am very reluctant to fly Malaysia airlines. It's not only recent problems, but the very poor Skytrax reviews that concern me for such long flights, coupled with an eight hours stopover in Kuala Lumpur. Other operators offer an overnight in Kuala Lumpur with a tour of the city before the onward flight to the UK. Have JY doing this?
Hi Alison,

Sorry for the delay in coming back to you on this one I wanted to discuss this with my colleagues.

At the moment we are still travelling with Malaysia airlines, the events were tragic but could have happened to any airline. The company have received government funding which shows the backing and confidence that this airline is getting. We do understand that some of our travellers will have concerns and we have been monitoring our customer questionnaires on recent tours and have been delighted to see that this airline has been receiving high praise.

Obviously, we do listen to our customer concerns and these are considered when planning our future departures.

Kindest regards,

Julia

Hi

I was considering this holiday but see you are still advertising travel with Malaysia airlines, in view of their safety record and financial difficulties, will you be switching to an alternative?

best wishes, Alison
