I agree with Mark that it would make a interesting short trip to include the Normandy beaches. I still hope that JY may reinstate the Poland trip to include Auschwitz and to go to Zakopane.
Good posting Mark.

RE WW2 my Father was based at Heston aerodrome he worked on spitfires, but never left the country, so no interest to me.

I did visit Poland with JY many years ago and have witnessed first hand the horror of Auchwitz and berkenhau, it was something I wanted to see and having seen it once I don't want to repeat it. When I did the Poland tour the concentration trip was optional and NOT everyone wanted to witness the horror. We also stayed at the Tatra mountains which were beautiful!.

Hello All,

D Day beaches would be wonderful as they are iconic, not quite sure how you would incorporate Dachau or Auschwitz as they are a long way from Normandy.

From Pegasus Bridge to St Mere Eglise the history is amazing. Last year on the 70th anniversary, we watched 8 Dakotas flying on their way to Carentan.

Hi Julia, sorry I've no interest in things military. Despite that, I have visited Dachau, a very somber experience and one I wouldn't want to repeat. I've also visited Yad Vashem, the Jewish Holocaust memorial in Tel Aviv, again a very moving experience. I've seen war/genocide memorials in Vietnam - the War Remnants Museum and also Section 21 in Phnom Penh, both horrific experiences but glad I saw them as it helps to understand the tragic nature of their recent histories. Think I've had my lot regarding the sadness of the past. From now on I want to concentrate on happy events while on holiday! Other JY folks could well have a different view however.

Best wishes,

Bob

My father was in the D-Day landings therefore I would also be interested in this kind of a break and as morbid as it may sound I would like to go to Auschwitz, I imaging it is very moving.

Hi Mark,

I will pass it on to the holiday creators to consider!

What does the rest of the community think - share your thoughts with us.

Kindest regards,

Julia

Hi Julia,

After returning from the Battlefields trip i was thinking about a similar trip however this time honouring the events of World war 2. I realise obviously WW2 was far more widespread, but places like Dunkirk/Normandy along with maybe a concentration camp? The holiday might have to be longer, i dont know but i was just wondering what the team thought?
