Thanks for tip, had assumed my multi-plug would be OK.
Thank you Lynda and Keith for your advice, and good wishes. Went into town to get last minute things for holiday thhis morning and completely forgot to look for adaptor. However it seems I shall be able to get one easily at the airport or in Cape Town. Val xx
Hi Valerie I did this trip in September & had to buy an adaptor. I got mine from a supermaket just up the road from the hotel in Cape Town they're not very expensive. Your tour manager should be able to point you in the right direction if you cannot get one before you go or at the airport.

The holiday itself is truly amazing & I know you will have a great time.

Best wishes Keith.

Hi Valerie,

I've just come back from the South African Explorer ( what an amazing holiday). We stayed in 8 different hotels. I seem to remember some of them having a socket that fits different types of plug, but some only had the South African socket. I bought my adaptor on Amazon ages ago, but you will definitely be able to get one at Heathrow in Dixons. I would like to point out that the neutral and live pins don't have that plastic bit on, unlike UK plugs, so you need to keep your fingers away from the pins when plugging in as I nearly found out to my cost! Have a great holiday.

Thank you to all who gave advice on Travel Adapters for S.A. Unfortunately Amazon cann only offer Standard delivery 3 to 5 working days, and knowing my luck it will probably not arrive before I leave. do hope I can get one at the airport. When I go into town will look in Boots but not hopeful of getting one in my branch as it is not a particularly large one. Val

Hi Valerie, you'd be better getting a South African adaptor. Some of the hotels might well have European style sockets (they have changed hotels since I did this holiday last year), but it's not worth risking it. You need a special one for SA which has three large round pins. It is larger than the ones used in India. Hope this helps, better to be safe than sorry! This is an amazing holiday, I hope you have a wonderful time!

All the best,

Bob

Good afternoon Valerie,

I hope you're well. If your charger resembles the one in the link below then you should be fine, if not, then off Amazon, they are relatively in expensive.

I hope this helps,

Is it really necessary to get a travel adapter for my electrical "stuff" hairdryer, straighteners phone charger etc. Have used the one I have for Europe outside of Europe( though not the States). So wondering if this will sufice in S.Africa?
