I used US dollars when I visited. It means paying a little bit more for things as shops will round prices up, but they are more convenient to use than the local currency and easier to use at a later date if you don't spend everything.
Personally I wouldn't use travellers' cheques as they can be difficult to change, but if you like using them, sterling will be fine.
